My FrankenRoss M10

How far can a Ross barrel be cut back before serious losses in power and accuracy can be found?

I think this one may have gone a trifle too far...

If any of you know where a guy could get the "brake lever" and cup from one of those Ross smoke dischargers like Cantom showed, let me know. I could put mine all together again!

I have the full set up and a couple of spare parts. Just a warning about these dischargers, they are listed in the FRT as a prohibited firearm. I believe the reason was because the barrels had ben cut down, but since the military or a factory was the one that did this, you would think that the gun, at worst, would be only restricted or prohibited (I don't recall the total barrel length.)

I pinned my barrel into the receiver after drilling a couple extra holes the length of the barrel so instead of a round hole with rifling, you get more of a keyhole, which if a live round were fired in it, would likely not exit the barrel at any great speed.

Re my spare parts, until I get my Bren carrier completed, I am going to be holding on to my spares. Springfield sporters in the US was the source for most of the discharger cups and control cable assemblies, but I believe they have sold out. I have also seen the cups around, but it is the large nut that seems to be the most difficult to find.

There are/were two versions of the Ross Spudgun...the one shown here with the lever and Bowden cable was remote- the driver had a second one close at hand that was just trigger-fired. Last time I checked, these were classed as "sawed-off shotguns" on the north side of the razor-wire, though. The tubes available a few years back had Brit markings; not Canadian.Pretty decent write-up in the Ross Rifle Story, if anyone's interested enough.

358/303 Epps Franken Ross

I have a Ross that has been "Frankenized" yo a wildcat cartridge. As far as I can tell, it has the original barrrel and has been bored out to 35 caliber. I bought it from Ellwood Epps. The cartridge is called the 358/303 Epps. I have reloading data but no dies.. A gunsmith friend said I could fire form the cases and then just necksize them. Anyway if anyone is interestedI will post a photo.

Cheers! Steve

Any of y'all out there with a Ross Sporter built up by either Ellwood Epps or C.C. Meredith of Streetsville aside from SteveSmith and self? If yes, can pls advise any barrel markings? I have one of each, but I'd like to see a photo of an Epps rifle diestamped 'Epps of Orillia' or similar...Thx in advance.
