So i finally got it together, shot about 200 rounds through it and absolutly love it. 16 inch fluted gm barrel with the spector lenth yhm hand guard fits awsome. My ONLY problem is that after about 100 shells i have to re tighten the screw because the heavy barrel is dragging the reciever down inside the stock. How do i fix this aside from locktight ? Do i just rig some kind of sticky foam or something inside the stock to try to soak up some of the wiggle space or what ? Im totally new to the gun thing so take it easy on me. It seems only one screw to stabalize the whole gun is a little crazy. Here are a few shots of the gun. Only thing im waiting on is the volquartsen trigger group but thats ok. You can see the barrel has dropped and its time for another tightening as well.

How much of a gap is in there? Could try a couple layers of rubber from a bicycle tube or something. My pressure pad right now is just some cardboard and masking tape :)

Also blue loctite is your friend.

I was affraid the answer was going to be something like that. Ill give it a try. It doesnt move side to side which is good, this way i just drop a mildot and im still on target but id rather it not move at all. The barrel doesnt touch the nut at any point but you deffinitly can wiggle the barrel after 75 shots. Id say 1/2 - 1 mm play up and down, none forward and back and none side to side.

wow !! your rifle is sick !!

really... this is the exact rifle I would like to have...but money, money, money...and money !!

it's always the problem lol !

Yes sir i hear that, but its the gun ill shoot most so ill sink the most amount of money into it. How it sits i think its around 1000 bucks and after shooting it, even with the minor bedding issue which ill solve soon enough its worth every penny. Next build will deffinitly be an Ar-15 however i wont be able to shoot it as often as i can this .22. Mind you the ar-15 will be a bit more money however ill be able to swap out parts or at least optics. I am looking for a red dot, dont think ill spend 1000 on and acog but id be happy with 500 on an eotech.

yeah, I look to buy a 10/22 and customize it to look like yours, but I don't have the money right now for the complete kit in one shot ! Then I should buy parts by parts until I have all the parts to complete the project.

Do you buy all parts in one shot, I mean how much times you put on it ?

No i built it piece at a time. A hundred bucks here and there untill it was complete. Alot of parts like the barrels and optics you just have to look around for. I got the barrel from Bits of pieces because Fab sports sold out FAST. He got them in on a friday and by monday he had non left. I got the scope from the ee and it works great for the 22 and still has the look i wanted for it. I had the bushnell .22 rimfire scope on it at first but it didnt have the look i wanted so it went on my girlfriends pink 22. The last thing i got was the .22 its self but only because the pal took so long. Honestly i think piece by piece is the best way to go because i think if you stuck me with the bill in total i might think twice, but in reality after owning the parts and gun complete i'd buy it for sure. Its the same thing as owning a bike and going to the pump for gas. Paying 16 bucks 10 times for some reason seems better then filling the truck once for 100.

Looking good!

For what it's worth... I bedded the top cover with some epoxy. Even when the action screw isn't intalled, the receiver isn't going any where.

This been said, I'm kind of surprise your action screw is workin loose... Never had that happen to any of my 10/22's. Do you use the factory screw or one of the alen head one?

Factory screw and i havent lock tightened it yet. The barrel is insanely heavy, it weighs as much as the entire stock combined which is still made of 90% metal. If i epoxy the top will i be able to take it apart later for cleaning or to swap out parts ?

Yes, you put a blob of epoxy inside the top cover and put release agent (wax or PAM) on the receiver (don't forget to plug the holes for the scope base... assemble the gun... wait for the epoxy to cure... and you are good to go.

The fist time you take off cover, you might need to give it a little tap.

ok problem solved.. After taking it apart or at least the upper part of the stock i seen a small hex head bolt that you can turn into the top of the reciever from the top plate to suck up the space and eliminate the gap. I took it one step further and took one of my gf's elastic bands for her hair which was the same thickness of the reveal of the bolt (about 1mm) and threw that in for good measure lol. Off for feild testing tommorow. HA HA If it doesnt work ill try the epoxy. Thanks.

That's a nice looking gun you have there, I just put mine together today and I love the look of it and it's nice to hear you like it to. I'm glad you brought up that issue of the slack as I was able to have another look at mine tonight, as I am going to the range tomorrow. I like the look with the barrel you have to, I need to get me another shorter and lighter one as mine is REAL heavy. I was thinking of getting a front grip to deal with the extra front heavy weight for now, after seeing your I like the look to and I am still waiting on an end cap but it's not quite like yours. Good shooting and thanks for all the indirect advice.

Cheers,
Evan

I threw it on the scale i have at home which is just a cheapo old school dial type and it came in at 8 pounds. I have no idea how accurate that is but i do know the gun is rather heavy. The barrel nut on the end clearly isnt the right type or kind. I have no idea what it woult actually be used for but i just thew it on there to close the hole. Ill have to get a proper one when Fab opens back up. I guess the one good thing about the weight is the gun really stays on target when your firing off a bunch of shots in a hurry. The barrel is a 16 inch fluted from green mountian which i actually got from bits of pieces in Bc. And the hand guard is a Yankee Hill diamond spector lenth (9.675 inch) from fabsports.

I'd love to build one of these with a carbon fiber, tensioned .920 barrel. That combined with proper optics would be a very impressive package.

What is your opinion of a proper sight ? I got a cheap ncstar that does the trick but I'm open for suggestions.

That really depends what you're doing with it. If you're using it to take out small game like gophers at 25-50 yards I'd put a decent quality scope, like the Leupold 3-9 rimfire. If you're using it only for plinking keep the cheapo red dot on it. My Krinker has a aimpoint knockoff and I can hit pop cans easily out to 50-75 meters, but I wouldn't try for a headshot on a gopher at that range... You'd be too likely to miss or wound.
Since you've already sunk in quite a bit of money, why not another $400 on a good scope?

Noticed Fab Sports doesnt have the FS556 on their website anymore!

Did they stop making these?
