This! Fr7 and Fr8 are very compact (shorter then sks), light and handy.
I have a "bubba supreme" FR-8 (it came that way from the seller). It basically had the following done to it by some previous owner (probably before the seller):
> stock forend cut-down;
> rear sight "circle" butchered (cut in half, two of the peeps are still usable);
> bolt-handle bent down; and
> "scout-rail" mounted ahead of the magazine.
When I first saw it, I had mixed feelings - but the price was too good to pass up for an excellent-bore, 7.62x51mm "knock-about gun" ($250 shipped, IIRC). I added
> a recoil pad (the concept of "length of pull" is not often my friend, and with the sporterized forend the overall weight was less absorbing of recoil);
> Millet "angle-loc" rings (while the "scout-rail" was cool-looking, it unfortunately was not parallel to the bore);
> a nylon "ammunition sleeve" (because, well, why not?).
Anyhow, it's a fun firearm that's
basically a curious (Col. Jeff) Cooper-style .308 scout-rifle. My only regrets (aside from the butchered rear-sight "circle", which was what it was and anyhow happened long before my acquisition of the rifle) is that there are no "see-through" (higher) rings of the angle-loc style, because I've love to be able to use the iron sights with a scope and rings mounted on the scout-rail.
Of course I'd love a non-sporterized FR-8 as well....but I love oddities (esp. if they are milsurp-based, and it was
someone else who did the butchering, erm, "sporterizing"). Suffice it to say, that knock-about FR-8 sure has character!
