Finally after many months I managed to take my Russian TT-33 out to the range.
I quickly discovered that the grip is way to small for my bear paws.
As you all know the grip is very thin and relatively short, the bottom of the magazine is square
with a sharp edge which with each recoil was cutting into my hand.
Also it was very uncomfortable to hold it. I had to grip it very tightly which just gave me sore
hand and trigger finger.

I was looking around to buy some aftermarket grips but the cheapest were nearly $100, and the same shape
and size as the original ones. I couldn't justify spending $100 on grips that didn't solve my problem
for a $170 pistol so I decided to make my own.
I had some Red Oak left over from my bow project and this is the end result.
No power tools were used, just a saw and rasps.

What do you guys think?

Those look pretty slick. How are they mounted?

Not the prettiest but it works, This is just a test run to see if I can make it work.
It is a really crappy way the Russians designed the grip mounting. (IMHO)
I will probably redo it after test firing and if I can get my hand on a a nice piece of wood.

Very nice indeed. One of the prettiest TT33's I've seen. I also found the corner of the mag digs into my hand, but 2 minutes work with a file on the corner and a bit of cold blue solved that.

You did a remarkable job. Its shows good creative thinking and working skills. I like what you have done with the whole gun. GOOD job.

BC406, nice clean job with no exposed fasteners!

Regarding the Marschal grips, cost looks like $105 plus shipping from his site.
Getting them for $85, how so, deserves its own thread, including a review... Much of a gap on the backstrap?
Mind you, any posts including pictures of feet are to be taken with a grain of salt on CGN.

Thanks BC, inspiring!

I have dealt with Marschal Grips before and am impressed with fit and finish. I do not remember those grips tho. They do look #####in! Very nice homemade grips too.
