My gun came in!!!!!

It is drilled and tapped but notice the mounts I had to get for the short scope. IYou can't use regular mounts for the short scope as the lengthe between the base screw holes are pretty far apart.

I sighted the gun in that day. I took about ten shots before trying to make a group so by my second time trying to group the barrel was a touch warm and my shoulder was a touch raw. Yes the groups got a bit larger as the barrel heted up but my shoulder was also taking a beating. Its no problem to wait between groups though to let her cool down and crack a you know what have have a smoke.
 
sharp, i just read your post regarding your new M70. Being new to hunting, I am confused as to whether this CRF action would be beneficial to me. As I stated earlier in another thread that you responded to, my party moves around a lot, hence unloading and reloading 6-10 times a day. I am not a fan of clips. But is this rifle easy to load quickly?? I realize that a removable clip will always be ready to shoot in 3 seconds, and that is not a huge concern for me. Since there are 4 of us, someone will get a shot off. My concern is to have an old world rifle that I can pass down to my son. It must be accurate, reliable, beautifully made etc. We spend most of our day pushing bush. I would appreciate your opinion...
 
I have a gun with a clip and a gun without. I like the fact that you can easily pop the bullets out of the floor of the M70. I also like a clip for, um...I can't really think of why because they get dirty inside and full of crap from being in your pocket. what happens when you drop your clip or loose it or forget it? I think that this gun will last a lifetime and when you chamber a shell into it the action feels awsome. It is a CRF! That being said, I really haven't heard of people disliking push feeds either. Go to a gun store(s) and fondle rifles all day long and then take the right one home. Like I said earlier though, I love this M70 and would definately recomend it to a friend or stranger. It shot great for me and my scope is definately not a target scope, but a great hunting scope.

Steve, I am in Winnipeg. We hunt in an area around the Manitoba/Sask/North Dakota borders. Lots of mile roads, and mile long windrows with hills and valleys. A great area for hunting.....we saw over 100 deer this year, along with a pack of mullies. Our group gets out there in darkness, and waits for legal sun, then drive the mile roads for an hour or two, scouting and firing. After the deer bed down, we push bush all day. Then around 430 when light is getting scarce, we truck it for the last 45 minutes. I realize that if I had an M70, I would most likely not be the guy getting the shots off jumping out of the truck. My partners all have clips ( 2 Browning BAR II 30-06, and a Savage Euro Classic .308) This does not bother me, as I personally prefer the walk/stalk type of hunting anyway.
 
Can't you load it and close the bolt without a round in the chamber and then just work the action when you need to get a shot off? Or just leave the action open with rounds in the magazine?
 
Unsure. The rest of my party takes all ammo out of the gun. I will have to ask them about their comfort level with that idea. Thanks for the input!!

You may want to go back through the regs on that one. It seems to me that a firearm is considered loaded when there is ammo in the magazine and the magazine is fitted on the firearm. It is illegal to have a loaded firearm on a motor vehicle, that includes a rifle with the loaded magazine fitted on the rifle which could be harmlessly sitting/leaning on your tailgate while you and your buddies are BS'ing and having a hot cup of coffee. Do a search if you like but there has been a ton of discussion on the matter here on CGN.

Aside from that, beautiful rifle.
 
Shouldn't you be 400m from a road before shooting? This walk from the road would give you time to load the rifle? Unless it is a bush road then it does not fit the definition of a road and you only need to be 15m off the centreline so you are out of the Right of Way. I think that's how it works in BC?
 
My gun has come in also, now i just have to wait till some snow melts so i can find the range :):):)

I always love lookin and holden any model 70! they just have some magic about them that says buy me! You sure got an accurate one there, great rifle and a good shooter too boot. I bought a Win model 70 Supergrade in 7mm rem/mag about 2 years ago , that has been sitting in an importers warehouse since the 1990's sometime? Anyway I bought this for when my 11 year old nephew graduates highschool in 7 years time, this will be his present. I also bought a Leupold 3x9x40 commeritive scope that will go on the rifle the day he shows me his diploma! I currently own a Win model 70 Super Express in 375 H&H(push feed) Win model 70 Super Grade 7mm rem/mag, and a Win model 54 22 hornet, I just need a Win 54/70 in 30-30 to make my little collection complete! cheers Dale Z!
 
Just ordered TWO SuperGrades from my local Wholesale Sports!! I am now drooling over the previous photos......:adult: Polaris, where did you get the sling???
