My gun seems to be obscenely inaccurate

First handgun,
You're still in the learing curve..
Grip, trigger control and focusing on the front sight....
ETA..you need to identify what you are doing wrong and fix it. Just practicing over and over is going to engrain your mistakes.
If you are all over the target, I'd start with dry firing and focus on the front site. At 7 yards people have a tendency to stare at the target because they can see where the rounds are hitting. Then you get all ####ed up trying to fix where the rounds are hitting.
Pick an object that is far enough away that you couldn't see rounds hitting it. I dry fire aiming out the window at a tree in the corner of my backyard.
You should see nothing but the front sight when you squeeze the trigger.

I just have a .22 rifle and i can just point it and spit it quite accurately at 25 yards. :D

I have had other people shoot it, people whho were grouping quite well, but none of the rounds really hit the center.
But it's gotta be a user error.

TRY ANOTHER SHOOTER

This should solve the problem for you- It worked for me...

I met Steve at the range on the first trip there with my used G21. I was having difficulty getting them on the paper from 9 yards. He was in the lane next to me punching one ragged hole at the same distance with his SIG. I guess he saw how perplexed I looked and started to chat with me about grip technique and how I could improve mine. Things came out a bit better after following his advise, but I still wasn't grouping well and suspected that there still might be a problem with the gun.

I asked Steve if he would mind trying out the Glock for me to see what it could do in the hands of an experienced shooter. He said sure, took it from me and shot a 10 round group at about an inch and a half. He said he could do better if it wasn't for the trigger on the G21.....

Short story long, he made all the difference in knowing exactly what was going on. As a bonus he even reciprocated by letting me shoot his SIG. I could group no better with his than I could with my Glock. Pretty clear who the weak link was.:D

Humbling I know, but if you are anything like me you will improve quickly once you start practicing regularly. Keep at it!

You solved your problem.

If the gun is grouping, that is what is important. The sights can be adjusted to move the group to center.

I will always remember my first shots with a semi-auto handgun...

I bought a Berreta 92F 9mm went to the range and set up a 2' x 2' target @ 15 yards...

I couldn't hit that target it amazed me that there wasn't a single hole from 16 bullets... Yes guys this was pre-ban era...

After getting another fellow at the club to watch me he told me that all of my bullets where hitting into the dirt to the right of the target...

I was closing my eyes and flinching so bad that I was hitting the ground 2' below the target...

I would say that something like that maybe happening to you.

If you PM me I could meet you at the Mission Gun Club sometime and help you out...

I still say Its USER ERROR, Probley don't got the grip down packed.

Usually is the case, especially with a new firearm, very little experience in general and with that particular arm.

Getting a good grip and being consistent about it is key.

mr00jimbo, come out to a skills and drills. I garranty we'll be able to figure out if its the gun or you. I wouldn't panic, unless your sites are way off somehow the gun is more than likely accurate.

Ok this is out of left field but are you right handed but left eye dominant? (or the reverse). I am and sometimes can have a hard time because I try to use my right eye and sometimes end up with my left and then there is a battle and the outcome is not always the same. :(

As others have said, get someone who is an experience and decent shooter (they don't always go hand in hand) to shoot your gun. Shooting a handgun is easy. Shooting it well may not be as easy as it seems.

Its you.

Im currently in the same boat although I can group better at 7 yards, but still not even close to what I should be doing. I managed to group about 3-4 inches at 7 yards when I got into the "groove" with one mag, but I had to focus into it and Im very inconsistent. Other times Im shooting way off away from bullseye, at least 4-5 inches. I think Im relatively 'consistent' between shots but not between mags.

Consistently inaccurate, I guess.

Anyway, it's not the gun... its me. I need someone to show me what Im doing wrong too.

Thansk guys, I'll send you guys a PM and we'll arrange days and times to head'r out. I do have quick clips of me shooting, and it could give you a good idea of my grip and posture or whatever, if someone had MSN ic ould send it to them and they could critique.

come out to S&D night I'd almost bet dinner on it being you not the gun. but you never know...................

First, I always make a nice improvised sandbag-rest and try to make it rifle-style (so I can ensure the sights and pistol are fine). Once I've completed this stage... I stand and miss the paper :D

~Cheers

If in doubt just get someone else to shoot a mag on a clean target and watch to see how they do; check their targets first to see how they shoot to begin with :D

When I first started shooting pistols I couldn't hit sh!t. After a lot of dry firing and 300 rounds later, I could finally put something along the lines of a grouping on the paper. Handguns are very hard to learn to shoot well. Get some pointers from other people in your club and put a couple thousand rounds down range...you should be able to hit where you want after a bit of practice.

I just told my wife about problem that at 7 yds you can't hit the paper and she says you should stop throwing it and try shooting it!!!...

On our homegrown range she shoots 4X4's at 20 yards with a pistol and 50 yds with her sks... And she hated guns before she met me... If we didn't live in the middle of nowhere I doubt she'd ever pick one up..
