OP, take the stock off the gun, wrap it in paper towel, then wrap that in black garbage bags and put it somewhere warm - not direct heat, just a warm environment. It'll sweat the cosmo into the paper towel. Alternatively steep the stock in a bath tub of nearly boiling water and wipe it off. Don't do this while the wife is home unless you have a comfortable second bedroom, because you'll be spending some time there if she sees it.

When it gets so hot that they measure the temperature in how many old people die.
On that day, go to range, fire a hundred rounds through it, let it lay in the sun as you cool yourself off. Then fire another hundred rounds through it.

Wera a shirt that you are not find of and bring rags to hold it, pick it up and to wipe it with.
It will bleed cosmoline,,,a lot,,,.

When you bring it home to clean it, just drown it in oil, then normal clean.

OP - hair dryer / heat gun might bring some of the deep grease and oil out of the wood.

paint thinner, several applications wipe with paper towels (blue shop ones are a little better)

Take the gun show approach. Don’t shower for a week or so and that way when you have to squeeze down the isles or are standing at a table you smell so bad that no one comes close. This is advantageous at the range so no one sets up at the shooting stall to the right or left of you. But instead of you it’s your gun that smells

If you get a bright sunny day with decent temps before summer you could place the stock in a black garbage bag and place it out in the sun. Tie up the bag good and let the sun sweat it out, occasionally wipe it of excess and should be good to go.

The 22 LR chambered bolt actions of the TOZ series kind of have this specific odor to the wooden stock.
I think it's whatever the stock was treated in.
Just something you must learn to live with......and I find it strangely comforting too. Lol

Wipe it down with dog sh!t. It won't get rid of the smell, but it will tone it down some!
