Here is the Colt Model 1927 1911 I put together solely from the EE and its sponsers for around $550.

Let me know what you think.

Its older paint I had lying around. I might change it to black but I can't find that colour anywhere. As for the grips I got them from CRAFM.

Wow, I wish I could collect all the parts I need. Maybe I should start now!

Yes, you could parkerize the gun, instead of the painting. Or just keep the original finish if it is not too bad.

And I would get a pair of Colt grips to replace these fancy ones.

No sorry for the confusion. Bought a beat up 1911 on EE. Bought the internal parts from various people on the EE. Grips, paint and sights are from site sponsers.

It shoots great now. The sites were off and the hammer had a chip where it met the sear. After the installation of the new sights and hammer it shoots like a dream. I realize the colour is a bit offensive but that is easily changed. I would like to say that I had nothing but positive transactions with the nutters and the sponsers on this site.:D

I like it Tom--- not all 1911s should look the same... although from the title of the thread I was half expecting to find one with the Gunnutz logo in the grips instead of flames.

not my choice of colours, but good for you! i'm currently working on refinishing a colt 1911 government model, you get a lot pride from doing something like this by yourself :) and you really get to know your gun.

what did you use for paint? duracoat? black is probably the easiest colour to find.

cheers!
