Howdy,
I bought a Mossberg 590 a few weeks ago and I installed a Knoxx Spec Ops stock on it. To start with, the Knoxx stock made it so I could shoot about 50 rounds of buckshot and slugs out of it without a mark or twinge of pain; I love it.
The only problem I had was that my hand would slip around on the factory forend giving my poor control. I usually grab it towards the back with my last two fingers on the smooth rear portion of the forend. I decided to get a Hogue or Pachmayr ruberized forend to solve this problem, but I liked the shape of the one on it. I asked Ian Roberston to bring in one fore me, he orders parts and reloading gear from time to time for me, and he asked me if I wanted to try texturing the forend.
For those of you that have a Robertson stock with the textured grips, you know they work quite well. He textured the smooth parts at the fron and back for me with a roughness that left marks on your hand when you squeezed tight
. Ian told me to take a bit of 320 sandpaper and work on it for a bit just to get the texture I wanted. It took about a minute when I got home to get exactly what I was looking for, and I am as pleased as a pig in s**t
