I just finished shaping my holster,but still have to add a few rivets and some stitches around the loops and reinforcing strip.Not too bad for a first time effort,feel free to add input guys :)
After finishing putting it together,I realized I had made one serious mistake,I'm LEFT handed and this holster is right handed hahaha.

That looks good for a first holster. About making the wrong side, I'm reminded of myself cutting drywall pieces for the ceiling, I can usually screw up a piece every once in a while by thinking I'm looking down at the piece instead of up. :redface:

One thing you could improve on when you make your lefty side one, work on those belt holes. Try using a punch at top and bottom, then connect the two holes with a knife and a straight edge.

Nice even black finish. What did you use?

Yeah the belt loops need some work for sure I drilled the holes out then cut with an exacto knife,it's pretty tough stuff.The example I followed has curved belt loops,but the insides were hard to work without the proper file.The finish I used was Fiebing's leather dye USMC Black.I have found a few tutorials on holster making,but none offer precise measurements,including the one I made.I'll do better as time goes on.I'll be making a couple of mag pouches and a sling for my .270 next.

Looks great.
There's a tool available for cutting/punching out the belt loops. Personally, I have no idea why the loops are curved, except maybe on the holsters with 3 loops holes (for cant).

What weight of leather did you use? I use 6-7 oz and find there's no need for reinforcing the opening. I recently did a couple from 4-5oz leather, and it's easier to work, but you need the reinforcement IMO.

Half the fun is designing your own. Trying different techniques to accomplish your own ideas. I'm spending a small fortune on leather trying for different looks. Friends benefit by getting flawed holsters for free :)

How are you stitching? (found out stitching method is directly proportional to hobby enjoyment.)

The leather is slightly less than what you use,I'm not exactly sure of the weight.I bought a whole back from Tandy ($100+).There is a 15-20 degree cant.As for stitching I had drilled every hole by hand and used the saddle stitching method.
