I've been watching prices crawl up lately... it appears the latest shipments of Howa rifles are now north of $8-900, with the wood stocked and Archangel stocked versions, and heavy-barreled models, going for well north of $1000. If you want a great rifle for a great price, buy one of the current inventory models from Prophet River that are sill in the $6-700'ish range. The loonie ain't helping us! Just say'in. :)

I am going to buy at least two more of the cheapest plastic stock variants (without the scope packages) in the calibres of my choice and eventually drop them into B&C stocks.

While I am still a T3 fan, these rifles are the real deal.

Eye skewptitted an older Vanguard awff'ear and am tickled pink..........well chit........rowzie with the deal.
There wuzz a bolt recawl that set me arse back a bit, but awl gooder now.
 
I thought I'd update you fine gents with a photo of my Howa 1500 (6.5x55) wearing a new B&C fiberglass sporter stock in olive green with black web. Love this stock! A huge improvement over the Hogue overmold stock which was flimsy at the forestock and a real lint collector. I also picked up a surprisingly good quality bipod at Canadian Tire. It goes by the brand name Champion and it's made in Taiwan. A really nicely made, finished and solid bipod! For $60, I think I'll buy another. Worth a look if you're in need of a decent bipod.

the howa I have is the sh!t, smoothest action ive felt and accurate.
almost saved up enough for my second.

also where and how much $'s for the b&c stock

In that case with a bedding block I'm likely in. Any idea on weight? Think that may have been asked already.

I'm looking for a Rem 700 stock that wont add a bunch of weight.
 
Given Remington's financial issues along with the quiet reduction of quality in their rifle making process, I noted in many forums in the USA that people are no longer recommending the Remingtons and are advising people who ask, to get a Howa and restock it.
I would suppose this may be the cause of the price rise you spoke of.
One rifle they sell has a decent stock (could be others too) is the Howa Alpine Mountain Rifle. Most persons find out of the box accuracy is very decent and so far I have not observed any bad reviews for those who may want a light weight compact rifle that shoots and handles well.
Their products which use the Hogue stocks however and not in my mind a good idea. I would like to see howa barrelled actions sold here in Canada like Brownells does in the USA...and I must admit that I am just not aware of that for here in Canada. THe cure for this is to pillar and epoxy bed the action along with stabilizing the forestock to eliminate the ridiculous amount of flex they have.

Putting any of the Howa actions into a stock like the B&C Medalist of similar with a full length aluminum bedded is a good idea.

Prophet River sells a few barreled-actions and B&C stocks. The price of a Howa rifle is low enough that you can toss the factory funky coloured stock (which btw is better than Hogue) and install a B&C.
