My Hunting Trip 2010

Freezers are becoming the norm. I was in Thunderbay back in 02 and I remember a truck load of moose hunters backing their trucks into a parking spot so they could use the block heater plug ins to run the freezer over night. Another group pulled in the next night and they had a covered trailer which I thought had quads in but to my suprise amongst the 2 quads were 2 freezers that they ran of a small generator while camping, so I explained to them about the guys the night before and they quickly shut down their genny's and ran extension cords.

Oh ya nice swamp donkey!!

Congrats on your first Moose! I got my first on opening day in northern BC this year as well! It was a young one like yours. I just cooked up the first meal last night. The roast was melt in your mouth! I could have filled my bear tag on the third day but hesitated to shoot( didn't like the idea of becoming the camp b!tch that soon into the hunting trip!!!!) We used the recipricating saw... cats a$$ for the job! We brought the moose to a butcher to hang in cold room for the remainder of the hunting trip. $20.00/day to hang.
Again congrats on the swamp donkey(love that nick name!)
regards, Brad

Actually I was using handloads but I didn't bring my 308. I was using my new Tikka in 300WM. I do love those Hornady dies I bought off you, it converted me from RCBS :D

Freezers are a must

I now drag a flat deck trailer with two old chest freezers running on a gen set. It only takes losing an animal once to heat and you will come up with a fix. What i also did was build a rack system for the freezers out of wire shelving that you can buy at Rona or Home Depot to help keep the air circulating. Haven't lost an animal since. The other trick that I use when flying or boating in is take the huge zip lock bags that are used for storing bedding. Cool the meat overnight and then bag it and sink it in the nearby river or lake. 40 degree water keeps it till your ride shows up to go home. Everyone comes up with their own fix, it all works as long as you get home with edible meat. Leaving in the am for Toad River, back in 10 days and refitting then heading for the kootenays. Thank god fall is here!
