When I bought my Norinco M14 the indexing was out a bit. I went to Hungrys Barrie M14 clinic and was able to tighten the barrel to bring the indexing right on. Just looked down it today and my indexing is off again. Has anyone elso had this happen?

Holy crap...How could that happen? 
After we saw how much force it took to move it in Barrie when we indexed it....any chance it wasnt straight when we did it in barrie ?
Is it leaning to the right ( under tightened) or to the left (over tightened) ?
I have only fired about 20 rounds out of mine since Barrie and it is working great... I tried out the USGI stock and my new Garand rear sights ....it zeroed in with the front sight right in the center...so I am ok.

It looks to have moved back to where it was before(loosened). It was definately straight when we did it at the clinic.
When you indexed yours it made a sharp crack sound when it let loose and moved a bit. Mine never did that. It was steady slow correction. I wonder if that has some reason why it relaxed back.
Could the set screw have something to do with it?
I just went and put my cleaning rods on it to check for level. It is not as bad as I though but is a bit out. Its a little out so it may have relaxed a little bit. I was posative we had it dead on at the clinic. I wonder if one of the bars was sitting a touch off when we did it the first time.

thats weird dude.. It should not "relax" or back off, loosen up. Conditions like that are usualy related to over stressing threads and streaching. I have seen this happen with fasteners, but I could not explain why it would happen with a rifle. Have you put many rounds through it since the clinic? Is it the barrel index, or a flashhider issue.

If your barrel is indeed moving..... and with hungry as a witness to it being within acceptable "ft lbs" during adjustment...... this might be the same issue Riflechair is having in the other thread related to indexing issues...... with a barrel that has been reindexed twice, correctly torque shouldered and set at 90 + ft lbs to index..... and yet still is having an index issue. Can't be my tools as I've done dozens before and near 2 dozen since. I have heard or rather read on the past, on cgn, about at least one incident where the barrel flew right off.... and have seen picture evidence of a barrel cracked right off at the receiver.... but these are from older chinese rifles that were known to be difficient during those import years.

I was also a witness of the barrel indexing. All was good to go after a crank in the vise. I believe its an 07' model nork'. He was sitting at the same table during the clinic. FWIW I also remember that it did not make a "snap" when we adjusted it.. Hope its nothing serious, and our eye's were out not calibrated that day..Better that then a barrel backing out.
By smooth I don't mean easy. I was hanging on the wrench bouncing to get it to move the tiny bit it did.
Other barrels were seized, your was not. Good luck!

if you loosen your castlenut just enough turns so the flash hider sits loose........ is there any wiggle room between the flash hider splines and barrel splineways?
if so, this could also be the problem as with wiggle room, the flash hider an rotate slightly when the castlenut comes tight. solution is to evenly peen the top barrel splineway edges evenly , both sides of the splineway.
if you did not remove the barrel's set screw, and it took all your weight to just get the barrel to move..... i can't see it moving on it's own. 80 to 90 ft lbs is the specified requirement to bring the barrel to index..... how much do you weigh? hehehe

After he put down his purse I figure he weighed about 185 lbs..lol...we both indexed our barrels and had to put more than 90 lbs of force to move them.The set screws were left in while doing this and mine let out a crack and a little wisp of smoke came out while doing it.

AND that is the mystery I am thinking about right now. Either way, the offer to have it indexed once and for all at my workshop is always open. One of the (very few) advantages of living in Southern Bantario.
