13 or 14 years ago I bought a 1950 Longbranch No.4 Mk1 and had it for a few years then sold it. I regretted it almost right away.

So I save my bonus and other bits, also sold a couple of sporters and found and bought this longbranch 1945 No4 Mk1*

I have more SMLE's and I do know a bit about the No4 from when I was issued one in the CDN Rangers. It has all numbers matching except for the mag, which has been forced matched with the new number on the other side of the mag back with the original crossed out.

I see that the barrell is dated "44 and is shiny and clean on the inside but what puzzles me is the green paint on the outside of the barrel.

Who knew it was so hard to take goo pics of guns. any way I thank you experts for any answers I can get.

green anti-corrosion paint was applied by armourers, it was only supposed to cover metal hidden by wood, but the degree to which it was followed varied. ive seen whole mags that have it (even inside)

Given the reinforcing screw thtough the forend, the rifle has likely seen service in India. The MK. I sight and antirust paint were also likely applied when not in Canadian service.
