I thought I would post this because a few people don't like the JR Carbine's original rail. As well some people, including myself are unsure of which forends will fit without modification.
I purchased a Yankee Hill Machine forearm that included it's own barrel nut and "anti-rotation" screws.
I had no issues putting it on and after bringing out the verniers calipers noted that the measurements between the two were very close.
So no spacers needed as I've heard when going to a new forearm on these guns.
I'm going to experiment with different rail covers. I kinda like just the plain Magpul ladder rails, which I have on
the bottom of this forearm.

Here's some pics.

Thanks for posting! Nice looking rig. I was wondering about swapping the forend on these, glad to see it worked out well for you. It feels like there's just a bit too much barrel hanging out there with the stock forend. I plan on picking one up if/when the .45's show up...

Looks nice
That looks like a heavy barel?
I thought you put on a fake can at first but after looking at it it looks to be the barel.
Can you show a pic of the front of barel. Please

No, your right.
It's a barrel shroud that goes well into the forearm. A few of the JR owners here have ordered these.
Here it is with the old forearm.

Where did that barrel shroud and forearm come from?? Looks great, defintely the set up I want to go with.

Thanks,

The shroud is from http://elmfg.com
Contact them and ask about it, they'll know. The shroud is 1.250 inch in dia.
You can have them make any length you want. So if you want it to go all the way to the receiver you can. Standard length for the JR is 11.5 inches which just takes it to the forearm.
The forearm is Yankee hill machine which makes a bunch of different forearms and lengths. Mine is the "lightweight" model.
They come up on the Exchange and ebay.
If you want to know the dealer PM me.

I assume you might be able to put a yhm free float forearm that's as long as possible? Like one for a rifle length AR? I'm not too familiar with free float hand guards but, could you put one on that's longer than the 9.2 inches?

For sure. I believe they make a 12" of the same model.
I wanted to go longer but sometimes us Canadians have a harder time getting certain firearm accessories.
If I had the choice I would like a 10-12", but I was just itching to change that forearm so I settled for the 9.2 inch....for now.
There are other forearms that are longer and more readily available in Canada but at a much higher price. I also had an idea that this would fit without modification.

Oh yes I'm only too familiar with the battle to get the ###y firearm parts we want from the US :). Thanks for the info as that may actually convince me to go the JR route. I always hated the barrel!

Great!

Beautiful job on that JR!
I'm just looking at one in the near future. So here's a few questions.
What's your overall impression?
Why the change in the forend? What model # YHM forend and barrel shrould did you go with and where did you get the YHM parts?

Thanks
