Minor hijack - sounds like this thing does not come with any sights, are you just using regular AR15 BUIS?

The JR does not come with any sights. These are Magpul Mbus flip ups.
Which are a AR15 BUIS.
I'm planning on a red dot in the future.

I'm just looking at one in the near future. So here's a few questions.
What's your overall impression?
Why the change in the forend? What model # YHM forend and barrel shrould did you go with and where did you get the YHM parts?

My overall impression is that I'm really happy with it. I can't leave anything alone though and have done a few upgrades. I have not owned it very long and have not experienced any malfunctions that others have complained about with the JR's.
It's fun to shoot, you'll need to buy twice as much ammo as you intend to shoot. You'll just want to blaze through it.

I changed the forend and added the barrel shroud to reduce the look of the skinny long barrel the Canadian model has. Also for added real estate if I need it (which I do).
That and I wanted it to look cool.
The barrel shroud manufacturer is noted above.
The YHM forend is the YHM-9634.
I'll PM you with the dealer.

Yes it does. The rails are a different shape though. They are more "aggressive" on the YHM but they are the same height.
So if you wanted to mount a red dot across the two I can't see why not.

How long is the factory JR forend?

I think the factory one is 7' It is definitely worth putting a rifle length one IMO, balances it out nicely and looks way better. That said the standard one doesn't look as bad in person as it does in pictures. I wasn't even considering one till I actually held one, then I immediately bought it.

The factory length is 7" (I told my girlfriend it was 10").
You are correct in saying that the JR's look is not as horrifying in person as it is in pics.
It seems like a different rifle when it's in your hands.

Bill at Wood Joynt told me that the Midwest Rail required some machining to make it fit and it required an AR Barrel nut. He did a great job of installing it- it's rock solid.
