Picked this up a few weeks ago on the EE. Fun rifle and pretty accurate, but is kind of a pain in the ass to clean (but still doesnt take too long).

It came with everything on it, Magpul Butt Stock, BUIS, Bushnell red dot, flash light, ergo grip, Fab Bipod grip. I just picked up a barrell Shroud this weekend.

Plans moving forward:
1) Yankee Hill Diamond Midlength Forearm
2) Ditch the Fab grip (its too chunky plus I dont use the bipod feature) and get a AVG
3) Higher scope mounts as they seem too low, any suggestions on hight?
 
Thats one of those cheap bushnell red dots?

Ditch that for a nicer one first. Mine wouldn't hold its zero.

I have a Vortex Sparc now and it holds its zero.
 
To shroud or no shroud

JRC has changed their forend in recent months to a series of round ports from the front of the forend almost all the way to the back .. This changes the look of the carbine as the signature three slots on a forty five are now gone , not to return.

There are posts to suggest they are saying that this was done to aid cooling as the barrel gets quite hot as one approaches high double digit shooting .. In Canada to legally fire the unit that would take many mag switches and may not be a factor as the shooter as many more opportunities to question just how many $ they will be throwing down the line :)

So if the tendency is to shoot rapid bursts of 10 rounds frequently then the selection of an unported shroud will be assisting in trapping heat.

Is your shroud more than 11.5 inches long .. Can you see it's attachment through the ports on your existing forend. You will see the shroud end on the new factory forend , and if you go with the Diamond.

Have you noticed any change in heat retention with the change to a shrouded barrel.

JRC seems very concerned with heat .. They were supplying the units with a different barrel in the first generation, claiming it was to assist cooling ( flat sides means more air exposure ) and yet they supplied a forend that trapped heat back toward the battery .. Now with the new round barrel they have started to supply a fully vented forend.

Based on the fact that the the posters on this site and others are spending vast amounts of after purchase $ to give their units a personal signature you would think that someone at JRC fell asleep at the wheel, to not announce the forend change when every picture on the web shows a different unit .. Is heat an excuse or production costs ?.. What will change next!

Appears the 11.5" unit ( Canadian ) will go back behind the three slots in the forend so you do not see the end point ..

If you intend on changing the forend to one that is more open , or if you get the new factory forend .. Round ports as big as a quarter all the way back then the shroud end ( attachment point ) would easily be seen through the open ports if less than the 16" longer version that was discussed in this thread for the first gen barrels with the flattened sides.

I hope some one responds to the thread as to how they think the attachment point of the shroud would look through open ports ...

If link does not work .. Search with Val shroud .. Val is a guy by the way .. He works at E&L .. 11.5" shroud is about $80 landed in Canada .. 16" would be more ...

I havent taken it to the range with the barrel shroud yet. I dont do prolonged firing with the rifle, maybe 30-60 rounds at a time. I usually switch up to my pistol or .22 so I doubt heat will be a major issue.
