Hello all!

I am in need of a little constructive advice regarding Lar mag and their use.

I really like the ideas of having 10 rounds vs 5 in the mag, and as such would really like to start using the Lar mags I have stashed.

However the mags are really stubby even with Ranger plates or tacti-puls installed. All the pouches I have seen/used , including 20 round AR pouches, and the ITW Nexus Fast Mag pouches, I find it really difficult to efficiently extract the Lar mag.

My question is, what pouches are you successfully using with these mags. If your modifying them, how are you doing it, and how is it working. Pictures here would be of great help.

Conversely, if you not modifying you pouches, how are you extending your mags so that the will work with conventional mag pouches.

Before you all begin, I am fully aware of the plastic and metal couples available. However with the fact that C-Products is no longer making mags, and the lack of a certain date that they will once again be produced, it just seems like a very bad idea to attach a perfectly good mag that will be hard to replace “lips down” so to speak.

I thank you all in advance for taking the time to read my post, and look forward to all the constructive responses.

Regards and all the best

I Like the couplers and have used them for years with no ill effects.

However, if you are concerned just throw a mag pul on the bottom mag to protect the feed lips ... easy way to get 10 rounds in a full size body. You can peel off the mag pul later and shoot the rest, or not bother to load the bottom mag, just use it to extend the body of the other mag, your choice.

That's my 2 cents FWIW/

I have some LAR mags and Pmags, and use both at different times so didn't want a permanent modification. I have TT triple mag pouches for 30rd mags.

Basically I took a nice cheap route.

At first I just put a bunch of kleenex in the pouch when using the LAR mags so they would sit where I wanted them to. However it was a pain to get them all out afterwards, and once they got wet. What a mess.

So lately I have been using plastic grocery bags stuffed in the bottom of the pouches. Comes out with 1 pull and doesn't matter if it gets wet. Not super cool or anything but it works for me.

You could try foam spacers cut to size to fit in your existing pouches. Practical and cost-effective. Any kind of stiff foam you can cut to the right shape will do.

Gentlemen!!

I thought it would take a long while for anyone to repsond.

I thank you very much for your quick responses and ideas.

It is very much appreciated.

Use the couplers, 2 10 rounders together with the couplers are just about as long as the 30 rounders. As long as your only doing range shooting, you don't have to worry about getting dirt and mud on the exposed end of the bottom mag.

Also, Dlask makes couplers for the LAR...I know they're expensive but they're also made of metal instead of plastic...

Try using blocks of wood in your pouches. Easy to put in and take out and if your worried about them getting wet wrap them in hockey sock tape. What would be really nice is extensions that would attach to the bottom of the 10 rounders to make them the same size as the 20 and 30 rounders.

HSGI Taco pouch from Daves Surplus and Tactical. Any thing else is second best:) Wood blocks in the vest pockets work too and can be removed if using the 5/30 mags. I like the ranger plates and the HSGI Taco stuff but anything can be made to work with a little effort.

This is how I did it. Used a wee bit of ridged foam insulation and rapped it in some camo tape I had laying around. Light as a feather.

Lar mag

Bought a poly mag that I liked the look and feel of and cut top off and set LAR mag inside. They work awsome an no damaged lips if you drop a full coupled pair.

The magpul mag caps are sufficient for protection of the follower, provided you dont load the bottom mag. Or get a dump pouch for spent mags instead of tossing them on teh ground.
