An air force pilot, hunting moose in Alaska shot this bear that attacked him. He shot it with his 7mm Mag semi-automatic and emptied 2 clips into it before it fell. The bear weighed in at 6000 pounds. It had recently devoured an entire village and still had remnants of villagers hanging from his mouth when shot.

Seriously though. I got this one last night. One shot at a 270 yards (laser range finder) with a .375 H&H. He dropped right in his tracks. I’m done.

I used a 300 Grain Sierra Game King in front of 75 grains of IMR4350. Thanks to Mark and Dominic for helping me get him out of the field and into my truck.

I measured him from the tip of his tail to the tip of his nose and measured 74 inches. I cut him in half after I skinned him last night but I couldn't lift the half so I decided to quarter him. I would estimate the quarters to be around 55-60 pounds each. What do think live weight would be?

Nice bear!

I wished I knew how to skin a bear like that "haven't shot one yet" and really have no intentions on ever eating bear. But I heard that if you don't take all that fat off of the meat that it will make the meat taste nasty.

So if you never knew that, well then. Get to er ;)

That's going to be a very nice bear rug, I want one for my place!!!

2 tags per license allowed here this year, hmmm.. hey, wanna come shoot another one! ill buy the tag if you skin it for me lol. ;)

Cool - great shooting! I didn't know you shoots an African cape buff gun. Looks like a good time was had by all. Now get out there and bag another one with your .358 Hawkeye.

Yah, I have heard that too, but you would never know it from the bears we get up here. Have never had bear fat that tasted anything but great!

Don't mean to hijack, but I've never ate bear. What is it like? Does it taste like pork? Is there a part of the bear which is better than others?
