Depending on the type of stock you're using, that may create some imbalance. I suppose you could always add weight in the butt. Just something to think about.
 
Will likely be a little front heavy, but at a heavy sporter contour, shouldn't be bad. I have long arms and end up gripping far down the fore end, don't mind my .375 RSM, which uses the same barrel contour of the .458's and is truly front heavy. I actually like a rifle to sit in my front supporting hand slightly, helps my offhand shooting.
 
Hey Ardent, nice choice of cartridge! I seem to share some of your enthusiasms for rifles and cartridges, and you have been a good influence on me - after reading some of your stories I acquired a Ruger RSM .375 and used it this fall, like it a lot too.
I used a .257 Mod 70 FWT for many years, took a lot of game with it, mostly WT & Mule deer, and a smattering of other stuff like bear and coyotes. Very capable round and nice to shoot. sold it after it held no more mysteries to discover and replaced it with a 25-06 and a .250 Savage.
Now for some friendly advice. I am a little worried about a gun nut stating a goal to have only two rifles for everything. I sure hope that isn't catching! The horror! I'm sure your new build will be a fantastic rifle, but maybe later upon reflection you'll find you need something in - between .257 and .375? Get well soon!
 
Ha! Good stuff. Action's still being machined, last time I chatted with Stuart he had made my bolt and bottom metal. Could still be a year, slow going but worth it. The Krieger stainless 1:9" blank's in hand.

I've ballooned a bit, at present, in the cabinet in or near enough shooting condition there are more than a dozen chamberings to feed unfortunately, pretty standard for most but I'm trying to cut right down. Still think I'll have it made at .257, .375, and 12 gauge! I just like guns too damn much to ever get there... :redface:

Great cartridge, I had one of the first Win Fwts in 257 and could not get it to shoot anything less than 2 1/2", but picked up a Rem 700 Classic from Ted (why not) a few months back and it shoots very well and particularly likes 110 Accubonds. I think this is a perfect pick for a mid length action and about as classic as an American cartridge gets. I was actually impressed with the accuracy and velocity I got out of the Bob, it leaves no room for in-betweeners, between it and my 257 Wby. Sounds like a classy yet functional and usable build, I hope it turns out to be all you want it to be. That is a pretty high end price tag, for sure. But hey high end one-of-a-kind rifles are a thing of beauty and flawless function and we can always make more money tomorrow, right?

Oh, and just to throw a little sand in your craw, I hunted dangerous and other assorted game with my Rem 700 .375 H+H and managed to somehow survive again, without a CRF rifle. Just sh!thouse luck again, I guess. LOL

I'd like to shoot your Bob when its all done, I think it will be a fine piece.

Are you going high, straight comb classic with cheekpiece and shadowline? I love that style.

Ive shot Matrix bullets out of a few rifles now..nothing bent or lacking in quality. (actually shot my whitetail buck with one of his bullets last year)

I also have a 9" twist 25 cal barrel and Marshall was going to look into making a few 130-135 gr. VLD bullets try out this winter.

I hope to report favorably about the VLD's . For now I have some of the FB and RBT 125gr. bonded bullets, I havent' had time to try them yet. 87's and 100gr. bullets have shot well for me in this barrel so far (Broughton) so far. Ive got some 75gr. Sierra HP's coming for Varmint/ Predator duty.
 
What is the wait time like on that action? You started the thread almost a year ago, and it looks like you are looking at another year to go...

I like the chambering too, was a natural pick for the niche I'm looking to fill. Yep, I'll end up in Whitehorse from time to time, when it's done will bring it with next time I go up. Stock is exactly as you describe, straight American style comb but with English grip lines and svelte fore end, shadow cheekpiece. Well done on the 700 hunt! :p

Total price tag would be low to mid 10k's hopefully by the end, no different than any quality entry double etc, and I'll use it a lot more than my double. Hopefully will become my most used rifle, I like to predator hunt. And yep- it's just money!

1899, yes delivery could be 2 years, nothing happens quickly in the full custom world- especially when you go all Titanium!
 
Wow....2 years is a long time to wait for Christmas! Then again $6500 over that period of time is less than $9/day. It sure sounds more palitable when you put it that way.

But seriously, why does it take two years?
 
There are a lot of custom things out there that take even longer, one man shop, does everything himself and there isn't a single part on the action he doesn't have to make himself of titanium, even the screws and pins he makes from ti. Couple that with demand, he's many many orders deep, and 2 years becomes the sunny side of the timeframes. :) I also complicated my order with a bunch of custom options, Rigby drop box mag, custom bridges.
