I personally did not like the ring mount. The horizontal dispersion varies with how far ahead on the receiver because the further it goes ahead the more the ring mount creeps to the right side of the receiver. You need a very positive stop. Among my none Sako favorites are the Conetrol The Burris bases worked for me even thought the sa for intermediate and long action.
I also had good results with millet but be careful as the front and rear ring opening are different.
I hear you about the alignment issues, but with two machined shafts it's easy enough to find the sweet spot on the dovetails. These are the only leupolds I'm running and I chose them for 2 reasons on this rifle. They are lighter than my usually mounts, and they are cheaper. After having to buy a second set, I should have stuck to my usual - live and learn.
I can assure you that one in .223 IS great for varminting.
I had pondered a 6mm-.223 for mine for some time while out in AB, for the exact same reasons. Needs to be .243 bore or larger to be legal to hunt Big Game with there.
Now I am in BC again, no need. Maybe I'll go this way if I ever shoot mine out, though. Easy conversion of the ammo, no real heavy duty changes to anything other than the selection of bullet weights and styles.
Nice looking rig, hope it shoots at least as good as it looks!
Very mild recoil. While certainly not scientific, I would say it recoils like a 22-250. I loaded some 85gr partitions (for big game ) and some 58gr V-Max (coyote/wolf loads) just waiting on my new mounts and some time to try it out.
I loaded some 58gr Vmax, and 85gr partitions and finally mounted a scope. After 4 sighting in shots, here are the first two cold barrel groups. I can't wait to shoot it more, hopefully these arent flukes and it continues to shoot good.
