My latest Swiss Arms Carbine Evolution

THe stock is 1.5" shorter than the original

Between CQB and carbine? THey serve two different purposes.

It is not a choice of preference- it is a choice of mission.

Not yet - I ran it out at 300m. It doesn't like 55gr AE.

but if you are asking about the performance of 12.5" barrel ( 14.7-2 for the FS), I have done 500 yards with a 12.5 noveske at 3 separate SR matches. The published max range for 12.5 is 400m and I could vouch for that it is not BS.

Interesting. I ran my 62 gr out of my 16" Le at 500m today (in abhorrent -40 no less).

Doesn't exactly strike the plates with authority beyond 400m.

I'm quite interested in a Swiss Arms Carbine, and would like to still be able to engage out to approx the same distances.

Look forward to hearing about heavier rounds through this particular gun.

Almost perfect now ...with a short stock I can square up and still get the proper eye relief with the ACOG!

The more I look at this stock the less I like it, doesnt look very comfy.

I can't vouch for plate striking ability, but I will be comfortabley to run a 12.5" with 69gr SMK handload against any full size AR15/C7 within 500 yrds for paper striking.

I did a quick zero with the 17.8 Swiss Arms carbine. it will put 3 rounds of 69gr SMK into touching holes easily at 50m - however, this is just a quick zeroing so it could be luck.

GT...if you don't mind me asking, what is your 69 SMK load (Varget 25.3Gr.?)

14 is the way to go.

Go with what Big Red says. 14 is the way to go. The CQB with a 8.9 inch barrel is a practical 100 yard gun. Maybe you can do better off the bench but what's the point. 14 will probably get you out to 500, but is still short enough for around the house.

I used to shoot the CQB at 200 yards all the time, with an aimpoint. It is not even challegning -it just hits the target (fig12). I was only using commerical 55gr ammo for fun. I don't shoot groups - I did all my shooting at kneeling at 200 yards. As far as I can tell, the hitabiliby is the same as the longer one.

I dont' use varget - H355.

The "shorter" carbine has a 14.7" barrerl - but that includes a 2" FS. So effectively, the "real" barrel is only about 12.5". I would be ok to shoot 500 yards ~450m with it if I am using "heavier match bullet", but I don't think I will push my luck to 500m. I put the numbers into the ballistc calculator before I headed out the matches - and I am right on the edge of the envelope at 450m with my load.

Plus, I did that with a SS noveske barrel.....

Just keep in mind with a bbl that short all your doing is punching .22 holes, no fragmentation.
