My Lefty ABolt

Solid setup!

Funny how a kimber montana will spoil your perception of what a rifle should weigh.

just put the rifle together....

Sweeeeet..... but not sweet at 3,9kg.................

Now to get out an Shoot it today!! i didnt realise its a Labour day long weekend down under, So looks like monday is hunting day aswell LOL

I own but one LH A-Bolt II in 22 Hornet. And with Hornday Varmint Express ammo it is only a tiny bit less as accurate as my 788 in 222 Remington with my handloads.

And some days at the range I cannot tell the difference 100 yards from a rest.

Dude........ talk about Spoilt for life........ I came from Rugers........ everything felt lighter...
I went To Kimbers....... everything is Heavier LOL but even just a little bit heavier, feels heavy.

i will deal with it, dont worry, i wont drill holes in the stock and cut the barrel off with my mick dundee knife or drill holes in the floor plate.... Hang on.. thats thinking.

First hunt with Her an , its nice but it was damn wet, i was on the edge of a storm an got wet enough fir 2 hours stalkin...im heading back in the am for another approach, fingers crossed.

Good thing you bought stainless!

Took two Fallow deer with the A bolt yesterday in faiding light in the corner of the property and the bush there was 5 fallows, i snuck up the fence line and got a shot off on one, i thought i missed, s reloaded an followed another and dropped her aswell.

my mate missed about 20 mins earlier in another gulley on the property, so it was nice to take two deer home!

150gr FN were excellent, will shoot a few more before do a report on it....i think its a great bullet for deer!

buck hunting this weekend, see how we go

I just bought the identical rifle. Should be here next week. Little brother to my stainless A bolt II 300 mag.

Edit: mine is in .270 Win...

I feel this is great for followup shots as a right-handed shooter. Can cycle with the left while staying on target and not taking the hand off of the bang switch.

4 strikes from 4 attempts.... Loving the Lefty!

pulled this Doe out of the forest whole for an old fella to mix with sheep for sausages :)

I shoulda held out for an Abolt-II, but went with an X Bolt...
Have yet to shoot it.
Dont wear that gun out WL !!!
Rob

True, i felt maybe should of went X bolt for minimal weight saving? if any? bit more modern? but am happy with this older Abolt.

its worth noting that Bolt / Safey perhaps Firing pin spring issue was still evident today after i hunted this Fallow 24 hours ago, it had some light moisture an sat in my bag since, bolt wouldnt open without messing with the safety a few times and noted more rusty #### on bolt face...
so sunk it in diesel actually , air blew it and a spray off degreaser , some cycles and should be right il have to just watch it for a while OR pull it apart fully again...

i cart my kimber in the truck incase it fails i can atleast still hunt whilst rut is on.

hell bells, 6 from 6 with this thing.
will do a thread about the 150gr FN projies and how ive found them soon- lacking any recovered projectiles tho :)

Have loved my original A Bolt and A Bolt II when I had them...but they were right handed and went down the road many years ago.
Havea left handed X Bolt now and am really liking it! Rebarreled the All Weather version to 6.5 CM after they cancelled making that rifle in that chambering. Shoots 1/2" groups at 100 yards and 3" groups at 400 yards when I am doing my part.
I wouldn't hesitate to pick up a LH A Bolt or an A Bolt II in the right chambering if I came across them.

Sounds like that FN bullet is working like a dream out of your rifle on those fallow deer (just like it has on millions of deer over the past 100+ years here in NA out of the ol' 30-30!)

Yeah back in the day i also longed for a Browning when the mates would pick one up, typically seen 270s mostly an looked the part with the short barrel and the magazine was always a plus as we would pocket them as we drove around the place :p :D

now days the short barrel in a 270 isnt ideal and pocketing magazines isnt my thing lol...

loving the 30-06 though, loaded all of those original FN 150gr i had in the Jar last night , so i have a heap of Hornady 170gr ones which im hoping are just as tough in all departments..
absolute spot on bullet for these Deer here, i could see it being ideal for whitetail and mule, even at 2700 or so. :)

ive got a few shots on video il put compilation together soon, now we are in a state of lock down-ish

with Covid19 lock downs almost in place, we are borderline allowed to be out hunting or gathering even in solitude etc, so i took he morning after some heavy rain to sneak out onto some property, not long after first light there was movement in the stables as a buck began grunting and rutting a doe up in the bush,
i snuck right in on him an shot him , drt with a neck shot at 35m
