Hi everyone, for those who would like to see what my project gun is, here is some pictures of my modified backpacker 410. Of course its NOT done yet still have some sanding, blueing etc. to do but starting to have a good idea of what the finish product will look like.

it went from:

Now have to find out what type of sights to fit on.

Wow... What a lil monster! Well done tho. Mine is still in original config, I just added sling studs.
It shoots approx. 8'' high at 25m so I'm looking for sight options too. Maybe just make a front sight bigger?

Did your modifications ,increase or decrease the weight of the finished gun? In my opinion yours looks much better than the stock one.

I have Not weighted it before & after, but considering the fact that the original buttstock is quite bulky and heavy , that the sten skeleton stock and the Mosin Nagant wood parts are fairly light I would say the overall weight is lighter .

A suggestion for the sights is a rifle type front sight and a groove filed into the receiver by the hammer if there isn't one there already.. I think a military front sight and a military type rear sight silver soldered just behind the wood would look just right. The other option for the front sight is a clamp on bead, they used to be made by Williams Gun Sight Company but they don't list it in their catalog, but they show up at gunshows all the time. You just have to know the diameter of your barrel.

The guy at the gunshop in town has a few of these.

I almost bought one actually.. But I am more curious as to how they actually shoot. What kind of distance can you get out of them for say.. grouse?

It wont be long guys. You will have some pics of the FINAL result pretty soon.

I have made a complete military looking stock set (3 pieces of real walnut) The sten skeleton stock as been removed to be replaced by a full walnut one, and I installed some military sights Krag (R) & Mauser (F) , a front and rear barrel bands from a Finnish M39 a Mauser buttplate and to finish I have the receiver and barrel with both sight base coated in Flat Olive drab green (Gun Kote) and the rest of the hardware in flat black. I am waiting for it , and as soon It is back in one piece I will post some pics,
