Hey Guys,
Got the McMillan in the mail today....wow it sure has been a while but feels good to see the box at the Post Office!! Its a Classic pattern with light fill...
Looks good overall....I like the fit and feel and cant complain one bit. Some webbing paint on it and it will look even cooler once done.
Off to the 'smith in the next week or so to get a bunch of finishing work done. Pics to follow at the end of the project....

Here are a few pics of the rifle. I went BDL config and its a 7-08.....

Was it the camera, or was the flutes cut a little "wavy" at one point? McMillan really did a great job copying the Remington stock.

X-Man,
Ya the flutes have a bit of a 'bump' in them on all LVSF's.....not a huge fan of it but not a huge deal. It just kinda gets a bit bigger at one point.

The stock is really nice...a big change from the original Bell/Carlson varmint style stock that is on it with the big forend. I could never get used to that stock, and the grip is so much nicer as well. Way better design with the Classic....

Martin,
The stock definatly fits good. I could probably run it as is, and will probalby shoot it to see how it shoots as is....but here is my list of 'to-do's' at the gunsmith.

Webbed Black/White Paint
Replace J-Lock with Callahan Shroud
Either tweak trigger or replace with Shilen
Bolt Skelotonizing
Pillar Bedding (more than likely)

Very nice RM. Bring it on down to Pincher Creek, I've got a McMillan classic to bed sometime, might as well do two. Oh, and don't do the webbing. Looks great as is.

Chuck

Chuck,
I was thinking of leaving it nice and clean looking as is.....

I'm only about 35 minutes from Pincher, kinda SE....one of these days I'll swing out that way....I'd be interested in hookin up.

I'm with Chuck. Most of that stuff isn't going to change that rifle one bit, except maybe the trigger.

chuck, I havent seen you on the campfire recently, everyone's favourite logger got the boot for trly inapporpriate comments and pics.

Martin,
Nope it wont change the rifle much...but I HATE the J-Lock and will be getting rid of it, and the trigger should make some difference.....

I want it bedded, and as for the paint and metal work, thats all cosmetic. Hell...the standard LVSF was fine, but I figured if I was going to do it right, I'd do it up exactly how I want it to look and handle....

I've started thinkin about whether or not I'll web it or not....who knows...

I'm sending it to Mitch Kendall in BC....not sure if he does the bolt work or sends it away.....

Either way, I might shoot it for a few months and send it off after the season.....going to see how it shoots in the new stock first and then do the cosmetic stuff after as well as the trigger.....
