MY M&P Range Report

Personally, I find little difference between a 9mm and .40cal in the same pistol as far as recoil/muzzle flip is concerned. Both are high-pressure cartridges that will result in very similar recoil/muzzle flip. To suggest that a .40 is "worse" for either than a 9mm is somewhat of an exaggeration. I mean, a .44mag has "worse" recoil and muzzle flip than a 9mm...but a .40? C'mon.....

I have heard about the mag issue as well but I have no intention to let mine hit the floor. They will fall gently into my hand.
Ah. Well, I would likely want to shoot some IPSC with it and being careful with the mags just slows you down!

So if you're a fan of .40S&W then I would say get it in that size.

I was seriously considering a .40S&W version, but I could not justify adding another caliber to my shooting since right now I do not reload.
Can't really say I am a fan of the 40 S&W as I don't have one in that caliber yet anyways. Just bigger holes than 9mm.

You should start reloading though. It's fun and will save you a bundle. Lots of 40 S&W brass at the ranges from the police, etc. Wish they would shoot the 45 ACP though. :(

Definitely if you plan on shooting in IPSC you will be dropping the mags onto the ground. Then the plastic mag bottoms may become a real pain in the butt if they break.

I would reload if I could find the time between working all the time and giving time to my kids in their sports activities and the quality time they want, and I enjoy with them.

I am working on setting up a group buy on 9mm mags, proper 17 rounders, pinned. I need 50 mags to get it off the ground, and am just waiting on customs to respond to my request on clarification on rivets being ok to limit the mags.

I don't think you'll have any problem filling an order for 50 mags... ;)
I'll take 6 for sure...a couple more depending upon price. :)
Let's hope CC approves them.

Just 9mm? No 40 S&W? I don't see why there would be any problem with Customs by using rivets. Rivets are legal in Canada and many AR guys use them when they go south for matches and come back through Canada Customs. BUT now that you have asked them they might change their minds!

Yep. (He's replying to my post that I shoot 9 mm well but .40 S&W terribly.) I need to get in more practice and the local gun wizard has promised to give me some help. Now I have a bit of 155 grain to try, maybe that will work better for me.

I wonder if you are the only one who saw the correlation I was trying to make between the two words.

If you are giving you're time to be with you're kids at the expense of you're free time, my hat goes off to you. There are a lot of parents these days that think kids are just a nuisance and should take care of themselves.

Unless of course you are being sarcastic with you're crack smiley!!

Ok actually it took about 2 hours of buffing to get the shine up.Looks pretty slick after though eh?

I just bought a 40 model and range tested it for the first time and must conclude that when evalualating a new service pistol,it can not even remotely be compared to a target piece simply because target triggers are superior, plain and simple.Secondly double action versus single action, again no comparison in most cases of specimens with double action autos.Barrel quality will always be a factor for the target piece dominating the field. It also has a bearing in where you have just come from in terms of your most familiar handgun. For me having shot the 10MM auto almost exclusively for the past 15 years and then stepping down to the power level of a 40 is most agreeable and I personally happen to like the M&P for all it's innovations making it especially friendly towards lefty's and the option equip a weapon light easily is desireable. This gun is very user friendly

I read thru this post, but what about the trigger? I am curious if this would be a good pistol for my 14 Y.old son. Does the grip piece for the smallest grip actually fit smaller hands?
How hard is it to change the mag release to the right side of the gun?
Holsters? mags?$

The trigger is not hard to squeeze. My point was that it was much different then the DA/SA triggers I am used to. It's about 6.5 lbs.

If you're 14 yr old son is going to be using this gun I would say to go with the M&P9.

Apparently the mag release change to left is quite simple, but I have not tried it.

Holsters?? Probably one that fits a Sig or HK may work.

Mags: Two mags manufactured by MecGar come with it but have plastic bottoms. I have heard they can break when dropped onto concrete. Replacements could be a issue.

thanks for the info, any idea who has a good price on mags and pistols.... I see the Franks place has deal at $675.

The trigger is quite nice - I like it!

Not sure if it’s a good idea to buy one for your kid, since once you try it you’d want it all to yourself :D

You can get one for $650
