My M1 Garand…Safe to shoot?

Finish drilling the holes thru,add some and then cut the
stock back,it never should have had enfield wood on it
in the first place.You were hosed on the price too,no
more than a hundred bucks.Lost beer money my friend.

I can’t believe you people; he paid only $200.00, for one of World War Twos finest rifles. How could you not tell him what the drilled and tapped holes on the left side are for? Everyone knows that only rare presentation rifles had the hole on the left side so that it could be screwed to a plaque. You should look into the serial number as this rifle was most likely given to a very important soldier. It has just been separated from its presentation plaques, most likely saying last rifle shot fired in WW2 was fired by this rifle.

Man, there are all kinds of them around for that price. A friend of a friend told me about this friend who picked 2 up from a dealer last week and got the 3rd for free!

OR...check with Madonna...she might be missing half of her bra...that would make it a celebrity gun. It also appears the funnel has been put on with great by someone like a surgeon Very rare!!!!

OMG….I think I got rooked!!!! BUBBA has had a go at this fine old Garand.In the bag of parts I found an old, junky scope attached to some kind of old plumbing fixture! It screws into the one hole on the side of the barrel BUT the fool didn’t even get the thing centered over the action! Have a look at this fine bit of craftsmanship:

That so called "scope" is the extension pipe for the funnel, no wonder you were having leakage problems. It even came with the pipe holder, you lucky bastard!

Well this was a sh*t load of fun but as you might have already guessed about the only grain of truth in my original post was that I bought a Springfield Armory M1 Garand at the last Duncan gun show. Well I saw it at the last show and bought it a few days later. I wish I could say I only paid $200.00 for it but I did get a good deal. It came without a scope but a friend had one he was willing to trade.
It’s serial number dates the rifle to December 1940 so is an early Gas Port rifle. It came with the Hart M2 flash Hider, K-Line cheek piece, scope mount, WWII sling and complete butt trap cleaning kit. It has a SA-5-51 dated barrel with the correct D7312555 drawing number on the top under the hand-guard so is likely an early conversion. As expected for an M1D conversion it is a combination of different maker parts. The stock has a Boxed SA with a K inspector mark under the cheek-piece but also shows a faint SA over GAW with it’s ordinance wheel in the original position under the receiver on the left side.
