Great day today...my M1 Garand rear sights arrived along with a new CGN T shirt...yahoo

I ordered the sights from Andy (In Italy) awhile ago and they finally arrived ...post pics later.....full of grease, so after the bath ...the sights look really nice....white lettering shows up well...Now I can get rid of the rinco stinko sights that are on my Poly 305 ..

As well I bought a t shirt from a fellow CGN member (thanks) and it arrived as well so I am cleaning the parts while wearing it....THANK YOU BABY JESUS ...Its a great day!!

how much did you have to pay for the sight?
I ordered a set from an outfit in California last week for $74.95 + $8.00 shipping. Hope I didn't get hosed on the deal

I don't think that's alot to pay. The sets mentioned in this thread are $70 shipped from Italy. PM's sent.

ONLY get the M1 sights or elev/windage knob upgrade if you USE your iron sights a lot. Otherwise just scope the rifle and have fun. Many of you know me as an iron sight shooter exclusively (M14 and Garand) and that is a worthwhile upgrade. Hey, the rifle cost you $ 400, so don't be upset about those goofy Norc sights. It's a great price still :D

Hope this helps....

I cleaned the sights and took a better look now the grease is off… the Windage knob; as well as the Cover and Aperature look new.

The aperture hole is a little higher in the Garand model and it looks 100% better as far as blueing goes…The hole in the poly isnt centered well either

The Elevation Knob and Sight Base on the Garand model have some blueing worn off …but the machine work on the Garand base looks better....Also the pinion hole is smaller in diameter on the Garand as the Polytech pin will NOT fit through the Garand base …The Garand pinion WILL fit in the Polytech base …
The sight base has deeper groves cut around the pinion hole and the machining looks better overall.

After installing the new sights difference was very impressive. The windage and elevation moved the full range and adjustments clicks were loud and had a positive feel to them.

Really happy with the swap and the quality of the sights .

Andy shipped them from Italy ( $70) and he is a good guy to deal with

For me this was worth it as I just use iron sights...a cheaper fix maybe just pinion and screws and new aperature from Brownells but after shipping it would be close I bet

Chalkriver: Thanks for posting those great looking pictures. BTW.. don't the Italians do the M1 Garand so shhweeetly ? :D

Many of you at the M14 Clinics in the past felt my demo M14's rear sights (M1 Garand). It's difficult for many newbies (to the M14's) to determine what good sights SHOULD feel like; over the internet I mean.

Some of you will start clicking on the Zhinese sights and realize that they should not feel that gritty, loose, or free spinning

It's all about the heat treating that said local high school shop class can't reverse engineer or copy, even if they quite often get the dimensions/geometry right. :ar15:

If you can get to a nearby M1 Garand and ask the owner if you could click the sights 1 MOA/click left and then return it 1 click right , you will "learn" what real USGI quality sights SHOULD feel like. Only then will your realize, "Hey for the $ 400 I just spent on the receiver ALONE, the parts that came with the gun are FREE!" Not a bad deal.

Or just come to my clinic and play with my Norc M14's sights! :dancingbanana:
