I think it is completely ruined. Damn me and my at home gunsmithing. I should have left it alone. I am so embarassed that I don't think I can take this thing to the range and I know the other guns in my cabinet will be snickering at it when I put it in there.

I feel so ashamed.....cou:

I can feel the wrath of the fellow CGN guys coming.... cou:

I may have to hide... :ninja:

Anyhow, I took off my USGI fibreglass stock, scope mount, steel but plate and put this piece of crap stock that was made of a bunch of wood glued together...

I suppose I should attach a picture:

I kinda like it better than the original stock that's for sure if it's a Norc!

Never seen one with a laminated stock. It's sweet!

Don't be ashamed!

That is just gross ! But to save you from feeling shame I have a plan - send that ugly stock to me for disposal and I will send you a nice plastic stock in return so that your rifle can once more hold its head up high.

SHAME on YOU!!! And the supplier of that stock should be punished too - would you happen to know the company, model number of the stock, and how much it set you back, etc...?

You could have also called this thread "Wood: The New Black" - that's gonna be a head turner!

What a beautiful combination. Great job!

I'm sure a bunch of CGNers will be hammering you for the source of that gorgeous stock... :)

Paint it with some black bed liner and it might look ok

Great Idea, I am off to Canadian Tire now!

It is a Boyd's Stock, it came on over before the iron curtain fell down. They do not make this model anymore :(

I suspect why they don't, the hand guard is very susceptible to cracking when you install the metal clip, (yes I have snap ring pliers). They probably had a lot of returns. Anyhow, I started to put the clip on and heard the slightest "crack" start. I then stopped, got a beer :cheers:and then got my fibreglass out. I put a very thin layer across the inside and let it harden for two days. 48 beer later :eek:cou:it went on without a hitch.

I got the stock off a board member and it was his last laminated one. I am sure once he reads the post he might list his other walnut one(s), (not as nice stock IMHO), but I think the walnut ones have to be bedded.

If anyone has to put one of these laminate ones on, I will post some picures of where you have to do minor work to get it to fit.

Now to the loading bench and then the range! :sniper::rockOn:

I think ALL wood M14 stocks can benefit greatly from bedding. I'd recommend it, actually.

I'm also more a fan of the GI buttplate (not the Norinco ones which are often warped at the outer cover - a REAL GI one - easy to find and not expensive either).

It's a .308 gas gun - does anyone REALLY need a rubber recoil pad?? REALLY?

A cool mod for the fibreglas stocks is to fill in the upper cutout and mount an M1 buttplate - Hungry has done that before and it turned out nice - streamlined look too.

LOL - you're a meticulous, deliberate, and occasional drunken man! I bought a Savage 25 in laminate a while back - it took almost no time for the stock to grow on me (tree probably wasn't totally dead when they made it).

Great job, and great job catching/fixing the cracking issue, it probably would have given you issues after a thousand rounds of hammer-blow.

I put one on as it gave me a longer L.O.P. and gave a better grip in my shoulder than the Nork plate which I found a bit slippery.

I don't think the things reduce any recoil at all, at least not than I can feel.

Wow that looks great was thinking of putting a USGI on my 2009 poly but this has got me seriously considering a different direction would love to hands on something like that. Thanks for posting

Canuck, did you have any problem with interference between the wooden hand guard and the op-rod?
I had to remove some material on the hand guard to allow for proper op-rod function.

Check this area closely, the op-rod may hit this area and crack the hand guard.

As Claven says, these stocks do best with bedding.
