My M1A double fired this week...

Agreed. I repeatedly carried out the trigger group tests as mentioned on this thread:

http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/91174-M14-M305-M1A-Test-after-assembly

And it performed normally. I also checked the bolt / firing pin assembly, it was clear of debris and moving freely. I am now sure after reading the above comments that I was using a pansy grip (can I say that here?) Right, a liberal grip, whatever.. plus I was wearing gloves. My next trip to the range I will try one shot, no magazine, with a loose grip and bench rest and see if the hammer is down after. I will then try another shot off hand, no magazine, firmed up. With proper trigger follow through. I will post the results, maybe I will get out this Sunday.

Once again thanks, we may be on to some faulty M1A shooter technique here.

My double did occur with Winchester factory ammo, I haven't ruled out a sensitive primer yet, either.

An update... I got it out last Thursday for a shot or two hundred... It worked flawlessly. I did reproduce the double with my gloves on and a loose grip, by chambering a round, dropping the magazine and firing, with lousy follow through. Then I checked to see if the hammer dropped after the shot. It did... I ditched the gloves and shoddy technique and no more problems. I am really enjoying my new rifle.

Thanks for all the good tips and advice!

I had the same thing happen to me this weekend. I will try some of the advice listed on this thread. I will however look at the bolt first to make sure nothing is gumming it up.

Update, I ran some brake cleaner through my bolt.

Prior to the brake cleaner my firing pin was moving free but the brake cleaner seemed to loosen it up some more.

Range report to follow.
