OK ..
before i go any further im going to say that pictures are coming ! never fear

right, so new M305 arrived a week or so ago.
the plan ( without doing anything major )

M305
custom overbarrell suppressor ( hahahaha because i can  )
USGI fiberglass stock
Leapers Handguard Tri-rail mount
aimpoint CompM2 ( or possibly Leapers CQB red/green dot )
GLFS dovetail
Harris Ultralight 6-9" notched leg swivel bipod
NM oprod spring guide and recoil buffers from Marstar
custom milspec camo job

Now the custom camo job is where its going to get interesting.

im looking at an urban pattern, but not the standard grey black and light grey splotches.

rifle is being sprayed in 3, 45 degree stripes .. Dark grey, black and dark grey,
a honeycomb sticky mesh stencil will then be placed over the entire weapon and the alternate colours will be sprayed on. hopefully this will create a nice look, then i will use overspray stencils in lighter greys for the camo part.
( all components of the rifle - including optics - will be coated )

Let me know what you guys think about it. i'll be doing the test spray for the stencil tonight to see how it comes out and will post pics asap.

PICTURES !!
using the worlds worst digital camera ( borrowed from a workmate ) i have got a couple pics of the stencil, and testboard ( piece of timber that was strategically left outside for 6 months, for that combat worn look :D )

so theres the stencil ( cut out by hand, looked like i had rheumatoid arthritis once i was finished )
and a couple of test sprays, plus a little poor quality gun #### .. i will secure a digital SLR for the final photoshoot once its all put together to get some nice pictures.

also included the burris red dot that ive decided to use.. only component missing in the build is the Leapers tri rail handguard. am still um-ing and ah-ing over attaching a weaver rail in place of the sling bracket, for mounting bipod

and method of doing the camo has changed also from my above description.

going to undercoat it in light grey, then cover in patches and/or stripes of mid grey and dark grey, stencil over.

going to cut random shaped from the honeycomb stencil, giving it the broken up look seen in the 3rd image , but not torn or damaged/deformed as in the 2nd .
so and the dark grey, black undercoat patches will give some soft edges, and leave some sharp edges on the mesh where it goes over the lighter grey areas.

hopefully will turn out nicely

fire away - comments and suggestions please . any tips are also most welcome

Wow. Looking forward to the finished product, as well as your selling the stencils on the internet to those of us who don't have the patience. :)

NEAT concept for painting a stock ...
we just use tropical ferns from the back yard as our stencil for cammo jobs.!
[;{)

I'm planning a trip to new Zealand next year ...
I wonder if I should bring a few of my M-14 rifles with me?

I always wanted to put a "snuffler " on a 14, but realistically, instead I built an AR-15 in .300 whiusper . THAT makes a lot more sense than trying to snuffle full powered 7.62 NATO loads. And if you load down, the you might as well go with a .300 Whisper. ri

Maybe we need a New Zealand chapter of the "Wet Coast M-14 support group"??

If i come down and teach a seminar, will you take me huinting ... quietly??

not a problem Laz, would be happy to. might get you to bring me some of those 5/20 round mags from marstar :D
if we cant get out for a hunt then im sure some of the NZ CGN'rs will be keen to meet up for a shoot somewhere ( as long as their local )
and i believe DSKD has a sweet setup down where he lives

as for the concept, i wanted to do something a bit different than standard urban pattern. this kind of reminds be of reinforcing mesh sticking out of broken concrete ( note: KIND OF reminds me :p ) or busted up chainlink ..

Lazerus...if you are comming down under and you do a clinic, rest assured, we'll take you ..

shootin'
huntin'
fishin'
surfin'
drinkin'
and...
womanizin!

righteo ..
VLTOR rails turned up today ( thanks Kimberjim ) .. they fit like a glove, as expected.
the mystery wood needed a little bit of internal carving for the front bracket to fit.. *out comes the pig knife* ... some of you may think im joking... :D
last ditch solution as i cant remember which one of my mates has borrowed my dremmel and not returned it ..

anyways, got the rails on, reciever and barrel back in.. Burris sight on.. and man is it ###y ( i havent attached the lower rail segment because i will need to remove the sling attachment - enter Dremmel problem )

so the rifle is complete except for the custom camo job

i think i have also defied some law of nature .. the rifle actually looks good with no suppressor on .. so just bare barrell .. no FH.. this is usually the quickest way to ugly up a 14 .. but ill put it out there.. this thing looks ###y without it !

apologies for the long post.. but can anyone help with this.. the bracket that secures the VLTOR rails at its foremost mounting point , dont quite fit around the norc block here.. theres a small gap, and has some movement .. anyone encountered this ? just a case of shimming it ? *pic below*
