I traded my garand straight acroos for a norinco m305, tore it down, cleaned it up & it blew up on the first round  . It split mid chamber where the barrel meets the reciever. Anyone ever heard of this this happening before? Everybody who has one seems happy with it, I guess I am just lucky(all bad).

Assuming that this isn't as simple as having left grease or a patch in the bore close to the chamber, it sounds like a weak barrel.

I would expect an overload to weld or fuse brass to the bolt with flow into the extractor hole. To split at the junction where the barrel meets the reciever, I wonder if this barrel was over torqued.

As Hitzy said, some details of the guns history are in order. Has this been shot with reloads? Have factory rounds seperated on the first firing? Has the barrel been removed or replaced?

you traded a garand for a M305? Geez, I like my M305, but I wouldn't trade my Garand for one!! To each his own. That sucks about the rifle though, I might be asking for my rifle back!!

As for the info, brand new, never fired other than at norinco, still have the patches I ran down the bore, so no patch or grease stuck in the bore, & the brass looks mint if it wasn't split in two.

My guess is the barrel was over torqued. I traded the garand becuse I was going to spend money on it & I didn't want to end up with a $700 breda. I just hope I get it replaced under warranty.
I just viewed my own pics, gawd that camera is a piece of crap!

Well, it sounds like there was a problem with the metal then if it was brand new and unfired. Catastophic failure like that happens right away due to the inherent flaw in the metal. If you had shot it over a period of time and that happened then chances are it was operator induced. The norks probably didn't even proof it or test fire it.

Remigton 150 grn.

Have you checked the ammo lot number against Remington's recall list? I agree it's probably a barrel-steel issue, but it never hurts to rule everything out.

Glad you survived the ordeal ok!

Since the bolt is intact, can you have a look at the firing pin, and make sure it's moving freely? You might as well check to make sure the pin wasn't jamming...

Thanks,
