My m305 problems =BOOM!

Ouch!

Glad you're ok!

I felt a little silly two weeks ago with my new M305.... firing the first round with gun waist high, action rotated 90 degrees away from me. Anyone watching would have thought "what's this nutcase doing?".

I don't feel silly anymore.

Questions for the senior members:
What's the general concensus with preparing to shoot a new or new-to-you gun?
Would a gunsmith have been able to detect this particular flaw without actually shooting it?

I've had my hands on this 'wreck', metal failure, the break is very clean.

Hey I've had 10 of these over the years, never a problem.
with that said, half of mine are GI conversions of some kind.

But a one old, old one has over 10K through it, headspace is still fine.

That's a tough call.......would you rather have your balls blown off or your head?
A rubber tire works good for testing firearms you are not sure of. Jam the butt inside and rest the stock on top of the side of the tire. Put a few sand bags over the gun to hold it down and use a string to fire it. Do this right in front of the berm though, don't be blasting rounds into the hood.

Also a good idea to load only one live round, and load it on top of a dummy.

SVP.

DO NOT go pointing fingers at the supplier until the owner has contacted them himself.

We will not be berating them with second/third hand info.

Let the owner do what he must to deal with this situation, and thank goodness he's not hurt!

That might be a bit of an overeaction. I have to give norinco their due, if you produce/export as many guns as they do you are bound to get a failure. I have read about us made m1as blowing up due to defects in barrels & reputable companies like remington sometimes have to do recalls so lets cut norinco some slack. Hell, without them thick about how many people wouldn't have any gun at all because they can't shell out $1200 for a 1911. I am more worried about how long its going to take to sort this out with the spotty supply of m305s.

Granted
From the pictures I agree there is metal fatquige in the inner core of the barrel it happens to even the best made production rifles out there

Exactly. There were at least a dozen Tikka's that blew up in the last year due to improperly manufactured barrels, some people even got hurt.
Are Tikka's all of a sudden garbage?

No more mystery wood stock - there's always something good to come out of a bad situation! :p

Seriously though, I'm glad there were no injuries other than to the rifle (and your shorts). That must have been quite a shock.

Lucky you weren't killed! I have heard some horror storys about this happening with catastrophic results! :!: :!:

I just bought a new Norinco M-305 and never had any problems, other then I had to adjust the gas system so that it autoloaded. I been reading quite few books about rifles and reloading. While I was reading I came across a few paragraphs that explained the same thing happening and it was because he had put a double charge of powder when reloading. I very new to this kind of shooting and rifles, but its a suggestion. Glad your alright.
