I put on the second coat this morning on my test piece of scrap wood and now I am seeing more texture ;) I am going to try my wood stock as soon as I get it in the mail.

Can you post a closeup picture of the texture you got? :)

here you go. the best I can do, until I take some more close ups

Is it possible to use some Motomaster Rubberized Asphalt Undercoating?

I only ask because I found three cans of the stuff while cleaning this property.

:D

I don't know, have never used it, try it on some scrap wood first.

It's not hard to do, you just have to be patient and take your time.

I love how patient people are constantly telling us that it isn't hard if you are patient. That's the whole point. If we were patient, we wouldn't need to be told. Fact is, some of us aren't, therefore we can't.

I did a test on a piece of scrap wood and perhaps I put too thick a coat of bedliner but it is slightly rubbery and it dents easily with a fingernail.

Once you put the bedliner on, you put the textured antirust paint overtop. Does this create a harder surface?

i did mine with truck linner paint only, almost used up the whole can.looks nice, but not very hard.

Yes it does, don't forget to use primer between the bedliner and the textured paint.

Undergiver, what did you do on the inside of the stock? I want to put some finish in there to protect the wood, but obviously don't want to build it up too much or the receiver won't fit. Do you think the reciever would fit and function if I did the whole stock (inside and out) in the method you described? This seems the only way to really get a good finish and have it really as a synthetic stock.

I think if you did the inside of the stock the receiver would probally not fit...

Undergiver,

That's waht I was thinking. I'll have to put some protective finish on the inside wood that won't interfere with the tolerances of the stock. Thanks for your help!
