My m305 shorty stupid problem today.

Brownells wont ship them to Canada any longer....glad I bought a couple when I did :D

It was posted on here by someone that Springfield Armory will still ship them though

Hi, everyone. I am totally new to M305/m14 shooting.
Today, I brought my m305 shorty to the range and experienced some serious problems.

I did strip and oil the gun following Youtube video and was shooting the
CanadaAmmo Norinco 7.62x51mm.

My first shot, there was thick smoke coming out of the gas tube (I guess. Please forgive my terrible terminology). And the gun did not reload the next round.
So I manually ejected the spent shell. Second round, same thing happend except the thick smoke. After I manually ejected the shell, the third round went off but I could NOT move the op rod back to open the action and eject the shell.
When I got home, I tried to fieldstrip the M305 shorty, but the op rod can not go back since the bolt assembly stick to its place after I removed the stock and the trigger group.

Please help. Thank you very much.

Note: There are three rounds missing from the ammo box; there were three holes (quite nice group:p) on the target. So I am 99.9% sure that the thing in the chamber right now is just a empty shell.

you have to adjust the gas system the screw on the side turns and that might fix the problem I had the same issuse out of the box allot of turns and it went away works fine now.

There are many useful tips. Thank you all.
Yes, I did clean the gun before I shot it. At least, I think that I had cleaned it properly, which may not be the case based on the results. I will clean it again before I shoot it.

I might play with the "screw on the side turns " first to see what happen next.

Yep the gas value is turned off then you will notice alot of smoke @ the chamber and the end of the barrel.
;)

Hmmm...
Interesting. Position of the gas value in the on position and the bullet exit's the barrel with a puff of smoke both in the chamber and at the end of the barrel but fails to cycle the action...
These round's that you are using are not reload's either correct? If so do they exceed 44gr of powder?

I agree with all of the above except the dremel part  .
All you need is castle nut pliers, allen key, a good punch and a big hammer...
I have removed about 10 like this without any damage to the flash hider or rifle.

Get to one of Hungrys clinics !!! Great experiance and you will learn alot .

My M305 shorty gas lock was tight at the 2 o'clock position :( If you have the new M305 shorty with no bayonet lug there is very little surface metal to hit. I had to dremel mine off, this is after I received my SAI muzzle brake from the Springfield armoury store and gas cylinder shims from Brownells.

I prabably will do the same in the near future to order those. The SA muzzle breaker is much cooler:D.

By the way, I used the Norinco 7.62x51 from Canada Ammo.
