My magnificent .375 Ruger!

It does kick about like my 12 gauge BPS Stalker loaded with Remington 3½" Turkey Load... Surely the same as a 12 gauge slug.

How would the recoil of this rifle compare to say a standard Remington 870 shotgun shooting a 3" slug? Would the felt recoil be anywhere near similar or is the .375 Ruger at a different level all together? I am just trying to get a feel for what the recoil would be from a gun like this.

Regards,

Chizzy

You guys are just mad that you didn't see the light on the NEW KING before you built your custom 375's for probably a lot more money;). Come on over...... the grass is greener on this side of the fence.:p:evil:

Ya know, I've done enough shooting with a Ruger Alaskan to know that I still prefer my custom 602 Brno, but the Brno isn't the rifle for everyone, whereas an off the shelf rifle must appeal to as many people as possible. My Brno is similar in length, handling, accuracy, and is only slightly heavier. It has the advantage of better sights, (a white bead on a polar bear is not the best option) and offers the choice of mounting a scout scope or conventional scope and the Brno has a larger magazine capacity.

The .375 Ultra is clearly more versatile than the .375 Ruger as the .375 Ruger suffers when the bullet weight exceeds 300 grs. The McMillan stock on my Brno arguably provides a better handle than does the factory Hogue stock on the Ruger, although my pal with the Alaskan wouldn't trade. In hindsight, the only thing I would change on my Brno would be to go to a non-fluted carbon steel barrel with a faster (1:10) twist. My 1:12 barrel stabilizes a 380 gr bullet just fine, but a faster spin would better overcome the bullet's precession on impact resulting in even greater penetration.

None of this is meant to impugn the usefulness of the .375 Ruger Alaskan, only to point out that a custom rifle has it's place. Besides, there was no Ruger Alaskan at the time I had my Brno built.

Nope not mad just tired of the spewing that a lesser combo is king... :D

I just finished building my 375RUM a couple months ago I traded an older Rem 700 LSS in 300RUM for the NIB rifle basically the complete build with Guntech's excellent work/pricing cost me less than an over the counter 375 Ruger and far less than a Mcmillan stocked Alaskan in 375 Ruger.

Plus I'm not having to compromise I have a one of a kind rifle built to exactly my spec's chambered in a cartridge that can do everything that a Ruger can and everything it can't...

I can load down to the Ruger ballistics but a Ruger cannot be loaded up to reach RUM ballistics ever no matter how hard you try and even if you could get close the pressures would be far higher than anything I would ever deal with.

Now that I have found RL17 and with a bit more load/chrono work that I would do with any rifle/cartridge combo, I have what I feel is the ultimate do everything one rifle/cartridge combo for BC/Africa/World...

The more I shoot/carry/hunt with this compact rifle the more I realize the potential that I have in my hands and how a 375 Ruger at best will ever only be able to come close.

I'm now even thinking about removing the VX-111 4.5-14X40mm B&C scope from my long barreled 375RUM and installing it onto my 21" 375RUM to make the rifle even more versatile XS Sights ghost ring/1X Burris EER/VX3 2.5-8X36 B&C/VX-111 4.5-14X40mm B&C.

In other words as I stated first in this response nope not for a second...

The 375 Ruger/Alaskan combo is a good combo/package but that is all it will ever be... :p

Yes it would have been cheaper just to buy a H&H or Ruger, but I'm quite pleased with my rifle. It's accurate, easy to shoot, will do anything a Ruger will do, but it's exactly the way I like it now. It would have been cheaper to build it right the first time instead of doing upgrades later, but that's hindsight.

I just spent the last week hunting with it for deer. It's perfect for my needs and I like it even more so now.

You got that right...They won't admit it, of course, but all you gotta do is look at their rifles and you can see the NEW KING envy.

Of course I'm not completely sure that someone from Ruger didn't see Boomers rifle before designing the Alaskan! ;)

ALL HAIL THE NEW KING!!
