So my trigger guard just broke in 2 by the rear receiver screw, and now the gun won't fire. Appearantly this is a common issue.

I know it's a cheap guy, but I dig it, is there something I can do to fix or replace it?

Thanks guys

There are a few options. Either Fix it, or buy a new one. There are aftermarket trigger guards you can buy, this site has a handful of colours, some that include triggers and some that just use the factory trigger:

The other option is to fix it. JB Weld would probably do the trick.

Yes, you can A} Super glue/JB weld it, it will work, just have to fiddle around with it..Ive alwayz been able to fix/get them to work ..or
B} Buy an Aluminum trigger/guard. I finally got one, but it came on a used gun I picked up. I have now, & had several with that shiit plastic trigger, & they ALL broke.no matter what.
I like Marlin ,22's, but, man, they seriously suck with this bs. They should be re-placing them all for Free. Maybe call & ##### to them. Esp. if you bought it new yourself.{Warranty?}

The aftermarket metal guards aren't cheap. Try Google with Canada, but, you may have to order from USA...there is a place ..like IRG, that lists/Imports them to their Canadian store. I'll have to find it & post later.

Thats a joke right? Marlin was part of Remington when Rem went bankrupt, and now Ruger owns Marlin. No word on the 795 being made again, so I doubt Ruger will be of much help as far as getting parts, and I would be shocked if they would warranty a gun they didn't even make.

I guess there is a chance they got a pile of parts when they bought Marlin, but considering the factory plastic trigger guards are known to be pretty ####ty I see no reason why you'd want to go through the hassle of trying to get one of them.

tommy - I broke mine (like many others have) and just Superglued it (Gel w-lots on the inside). This was back in 2017 and it still is OK, tho I am careful when dis and re-assembling it. The metal guards end up costing about $100 unless you can find one from an individual. You could use JB on the inside and relieve a bit of the stock to leave the JB holding it ?

Also, keep your eye out for a good 'used deals in the EE. I got an old Model 70 off here for $100-but no stock/non cracked trigger guard. Most(all) parts of 70 & 795 are interchangeable. The 795 has last shot bolt open. the stocks are slightly different.
& I got a Model a 60 off here as well, a package with 2 extra 'aftermarket' stocks, it came with an old style factory metal guard + the package came with the aftermarket Aluminum {in silver} guard/trigger installed, all for a very decent deal. + I have the 795 too. Also bought used off the EE awhile ago lol {w/non-disclosed cracked Guard!}.

I'm going to mix n' match 'em all up a bit, really like Marlin .22's, but probably sell 2 = Downsizing!

Suther,
Ruger is bringing back the Papoose, but are calling it the 795.

Check out https://www.marlinfirearms.com/s/rimfire/. That shows that Ruger is bringing back the Papoose (now called the 795), the 60, and XT-22.

Cheers,
Neil

Nice! I'll definitely be getting one of those if they're not retardedly priced when they hit the market.

Interesting, but also not surprising they're not bringing back the standard 795 by the looks of it - it is direct competition to the cheapest 10/22s after all.

It also says the following:
Currently not in production, please visit Customer Service if you need product support for your Pre-Ruger manufactured rifle.

So maybe you CAN get some support for non-Ruger made Marlins after all. I still wouldn't bother trying for the plastic trigger guard that always breaks though.

Hmmm...maybe a papoose is in my future? We'll see what the price looks like. I know when I bought my first 795 I think I paid something like $149? At that price, the cheesy stock (better geometry than a Savage Mark II tupperware) was OK and lots of TLC required when putting the stock back on. I wonder if the new ones will have better iron sights. Lots of room for improvement there.

May I ask how you broke your trigger guard ?
I got one and would like to avoid the same fate.

Yep, When I did mine I wasn't cranking at all. It's very weak in that small area. Just keep Superglue or JB handy . . . I suppose if you put washers on both sides it might be OK? You'd still have to relieve under that end to put in a washer - just use SS so it won't rust^O^ Prob a project in my future, too. My 60 shoots ca 1/2-3/4" @ 50 so it's worth doing.

Thats exactly it. I just took it to the range one day and the trigger wouldn't work. So we took it apart, in doing so the bottom metal cracked into 2. After looking it up on the webernets it turns out that on a long enough time line its an inevitability.

Western Gun Parts in Edmonton could well have the trigger guard. I’ve ordered the same from them before. Make sure you have the part number, send them an email and they’ll let you know.

thanks for the post. oh just sent them an email. looking for DIP trigger guard, pic rail and bolt handle. ordering from the US is painful for a couple reasons!
