My Marlin 917V arrived recently after being put on backorder from S.I.R. It wasn't exactly love at first sight with the pressed checkering being a little cheap looking and the action being a little stiff, requiring a quick flick to eject the emptly cases. But I figured a heavy barreled rifle with a scope and two magazines for $270.00 I'd give it a chance. I have to say I'm glad I did, I love shooting this little rifle. It's cheap to feed and has plenty more in the accuracy department than I can get out of it. I put a Rock Mount Bipod on it the other day and shot this four shot group at 100 yds. Yeah I know one of them got away from me, but that was me and not the gun. If your looking to get in on the 17HMR game I think this is a great gun for the buck.

917vs

I've got the 917VS and as you say, they aren't the purdiest rifles but they sure do shoot good. The only thing I did to mine was put in a rifle basix trigger (factory isn't the greatest, but apparently it's an easy fix, I think you just have to look on rimfire central for tips)
