My Marstar Rifle Chamber looks Defective??

Did some detailed claening, aka de-cosmolining yesterday and realized that my M305 chamber looks totally abnormal.

The "ring" is not intact, and looks as if 3/4 of it has been "gouged" with an industrial tool.

What is up with this?? I emailed Marstar, and await their reply.....no pics of this as my camera is on the fritz.

Anyone else come across this feature? Why would Marstar ship a rifle with a defective chamber?

yes need pics, I know....could they be the "feed ramps" for the rounds?

Does your chamber ring go all the way across the top of the received when the bolt is closed, because mine does not....only goes about half way across and then some is missing.

If someone has a pic of a standard M305 chamber, that would help me compare, thanks!

again, the end of the ring does not completely cover the bolt when the bolt is flush against it.

Your chamber should have a scallop at the 5 and 7 o'clock position. They are the feed ramps. Take a loaded mag and seat it in the rifle. You will note that the right and left round in the mag will be pointing at the scallops.

Mystery solved???

Scallops are there at five and seven, however part of the side/top is missing as well??

The scallop on the seven o'clock side goes from 7 right up to two o'clock.

Is that normal?

thanks....

Yes, it is. On mine, there is a relief cut from just past 12 o'clock which carries down to 5. At 5 there is a slightly deeper scallop, and again at 7 with a peak between the two righ at 6. From the left edge of the scallop at 7 oclock, the barrel extends back further right up to the top.

The extractor is on the right side of the bolt face, and it has to cam over the case rim while the bolt is rotating into battery. That's the reason for the relief cut on the right side of the barrel face.

Yours sounds fine.

Thanks sounds good. (got the two sides mixed up).

Yes one scallop on seven o'clock.....and then one long one from five right up to 1 or 2 o'clock.

So the rifle must be safe to fire....was just worried as it doesn't look like much is sealing off the chamber area....and that the top side of the ring went only part way across the top of the bolt.

This is what a standard M14 chamber looks like:

That is a Smith CrazyHorse barrel/chamber).:D

There are cutouts for the Extractor and feed ramps.

Yours sounds normal.

SKBY.

Thanks for the pic!

Yes, mine looks the same.....it's just such a "back shed" looking configuration I wanted to make sure.

Hi,

Your bullet casing is supposed to seal the chamber. That momentary expansion of casing against the chamber walls provides most of the effort to keep the round chambered whilst firing.

I'd like to see better feed ramps built into that so I don't screw up the bullet tips on the way in. They slam into those bottom reliefs at 5 and 7 o'clock.

Don't feel bad my friend, I was worried when I first got mine as well back in the day. It really doesn't look "right".

That is the way this rifle was made in 1957, this is what softpoints can be problematic, stay with FMJ or ballistic tips.
