Just a quick post to say my Modern Hunter is ordered. CTS stock, SS 0.950 barrel, 6.5 Creedmoor, (yeah yeah yeah, I know the cartridges are hard to find and expensive) I checked out and read a lot of articles regarding this calibre vs 308. Was tossing up if I wanted the CF barrel but a lot of articles say the steel liner in a CF barrel heats up faster and cools faster so there is some trade offs. Also for $1100 I don't think the SS barrel will wear out in my life time. The jury was out as I liked both calibers but went for the 6.5 with lesser recoil as wife may fire it as well at the range. Price was over $4500 so not cheap. Got 3 guns to sell now.

Sounds like a nice rifle set up. I would love to get one myself but the price is prohibitive for me. Hopefully you achieve half MOA with your MH.

Thanks for the responses people. I have just ordered but Shawn at ATR says it might be less than 6 months. I have to confirm the order to make sure it has what I want as the order procedure looked a little strange on their website. I went to the store and groped a bunch last Monday. I will post the full details once confirmation is complete. I ordered the JPS 12" Handguard with Rail for it. They feel front heavy but I like that in a semi auto. I also got ambi safety and mag release as I am southpaw.

These are the things I fretted about, in no particular order:

WEIGHT!!! These are not light. Save it wherever you can. I did the CF barrel, but it comes at a a big premium.

Barrel length - all the guys at ATRS have the 18.6", and there's little to be gained with anything longer

Color - on a gun this expensive, I want it to be "mine". Make sure you think about getting you're brake cerakoted too, if you like that.

Get a thread protector. If you're gonna hunt with it it'll be awful loud with the brake on.

I did ambi both too. I'm a rightee, but for 150$, i did it for resale (I'll never sell it) or use by my left handed friends.

Lotsa guys on here have had there's for a year or more.... Ask if you have Q's!!!

I changed the barrel to 18.6". Had to go to their shop today as something went screwy on their website when I ordered. Now am looking at collecting 308, 243, 260 brass to resize to 6.5CM way ahead of the time. For the CF option I think I can buy a second barrel/bolt with this gun for less money and have 2 calibers for one gun and I am thinking the 308 with 750 barrel for hunting. I got the thread protector for when I use it without brake.

If you decide to hand-load, pm me and I'll send you my 6.5 creedmoor hand-load recipe for a jump start. On a good shooting day I can get 5-shots into .5-.7 inches @100.... when I am not shooting that well then the groups can be as much as 1 to 1.5 inches @100. Semi-autos are harder to drive than bolt-actions (in general... ymmv of course).

Congrats on a top-quality rifle...!

Consider the .338 fed as a second caliber.....it's very intriguing.

Why not just buy some 6.5 CM brass? Waaaaaay less hassle and a much greater chance that the rifle will run well for you.

If you will do any kind of shooting with this rifle you will definitely wear out the barrel and then some.
A typical 6.5 Creedmoor barrel will last between 2,000-2,500 rounds.
If you take it out once a month and shoot 40 rounds through it the barrel will last you between 4-5 years before performance starts to drop off.
By the end of the 6th year you will be at 2,880 rounds.
To put it in context if you are purchasing Hornady Superformance ammo you will be spending around $55.00/20 or $2.75 per round.
In 4 years you would have spent $5,280+tx in ammo alone.
In 6 years you would have spent $7,920+tx in ammo alone.
So when you think about it the cost of the barrel is the least of your worries.

So if your barrel costs $1,100 for every pull of the trigger you need to calculate $0.50 going towards your next barrel.

Enjoy it. There is one in my not to distant future, just got to make the ends add up, and Ill be placing an order as well.

Pretty well decided strictly 308 for my MH; can find it anywhere, tame recoil (especially when the MH is dressed to field weight) compared to other hunting calibers out there, lots of bullet selections for weight/types for hunting/target shooting, loads of barrel life, etc. Certainly nothing wrong with 6.5 CRM (my target rifle is chambered in it and its awesome to shoot) but its nice sometimes when you've got only a quartering shot on an elf and you need to have it go down rather than buggering out to a swamp or deep down a ravine; having the extra omph availible in the boring tried and true 308, can be advantageous, at least to me. To each there own though.

Post pics when it comes in.

You can get other Uppers over time
I have the 6.5CM but it was to heavy so I'm replacing the barrel with a light 6.5CM is it ever sweet to shoot
Just whalting on the 338fed upper
My next upper will 308 just to round thing out

The competition I want to shoot asks for 308 or 223 only with 10kg max weight. May have to re think the caliber to have ordered. I was going to order a separate barrel. Did not need the upper as I don't need to change at the range just decide when I go hunting to take the 308 then target was going for 6.5CM. Now I may change that and go 308 all the way. Will discuss with Rick tomorrow.

I love shooting the MH in 6.5CM but the barrel made it heavy that's way I ordered a thin barrel 6.5cm so I'm just switching barrels and not caliber
I do need a 308 it's handy I know I can't get 6.5CM or 338fed on Haida Gwaii but thers always 308 243 and 223 at the CO-OP
