Hello all. I took some pictures today of the latest red rifle (mosin sniper) and decided to post a common "pictures of my collection" thread :)

1943 Tula Mosin Nagant Sniper. I sanded down the stock and applied 3 coats of polyurethane to refinish the stock.

Picture didn't come out too well. Was trying to show off the stain job I did. I was going for a dark look.

Its funny. When I was in my teens I only wanted black stocks. Now I can't stand the look of them. Wood grain just has so much more character. Every rifle is unique!

The whole collection cost around $1500 (with shipping) and I cant think of a better way to spend that much money.

Thanks for looking!

I hope canada ammo takes their time with my current order 'cause I may need to install another safe. I do believe I have a problem with buying firearms :(

Welcome to the "Sickness"

I got it bad man, the safe's full to the gills and I've got an SVT-40 on the way.

Very nice collection man, I gotta say I'm jealous. Between me and my buddy we have a decent Soviet collection. 2x SKS, 2x SVT-40, and the crowning jewel: A PTRD 14.5mm anti-tank rifle. Even though my buddy paid for it I'd like to claim partial ownership due to helping him scrape the cosmoline off. Still in the market for a PU though, wanted one ever since I saw Enemy At The Gate as a kid.

You have a nice family of reds going there, don't stop now!!! Have you shot 'em all, and which one performed the best, inquiring minds would like to know.

Shellac

Nice family, Kasirov.
Now, if you wanted to keep your sniper all its authenticity (and value), it would have been better to strip the stock with a furniture stripper and some 000 steel wool, clean the wood with a brush and some denatured alcohol (methyl hydrate is OK but very unfriendly to your skin and eyes), steam all the bumps and bruises in the wood then treat it with some pine tar and apply a few coats of cherry or orange shellac on it. If a more purple tinge is your bag, just add a few drops of iodine tincture to the shellac mix.
The original finish was red shellac slathered on the wood with a brush.
If the shellac finish was flaking you could simply apply more fresh shellac over it: alcohol in the shellac melts the old finish and the new layer merges with it.
PP.

Gorgeous collection! Love the mosins, I can't wait to get more myself. My collection started off with 1 SKS, and has grown to 4 sks's, 2 svt40's, 2 mosins (one sniper) and 1 cz858. Planning on 2 more svt's and 2 more mosins.

Damn it, all these posts with SVT-40's in them are making me want to buy one again. I bought one a few months ago but didn't love it, and sold it. Now I'm thinking I didn't give the old girl enough time to make a good decision. Maybe I should sell/trade one of my SKS's for a SVT-40!
