Hi all.
I have been wanting a short 18.5" shotgun since I got rid of my Frankenstein 870 almost 2 years ago.it was a blemished reciever with a rifle sight short barrel and a horrid Knox black opsII stock. Hated it! Anyways on with the review...
I had my eye on the 590a1's but have shot a few and am not a huge fan of their weight due to the heavy barrels. I also didn't like how the parkerized finish on the whole gun marked so easy. Yeah they were nice to shoot tho. Just personal preference points. My other problem with the 590's was the $500+ tag on them.

So... I decided what I wanted was the Mossberg 500 persuader! Blued finish with a regular weight 18.5" barrel. I was indifferent to the mag tube size (5+1 vs 7+1)
I also was fine with the bead sight as opposed to the ghost ring that comes on the 590's.

After a week of obsessive Internet searches and deciding that I would have to wait for a sale to finally "pull the trigger" and get one. Bang! I got a Facebook update that SFRC had a 15% off Black Friday sale on top on the already discounted price. I believe I saved 27% by purchasing when I did. For once I got lucky! Lol

The model they had in stock (50411) was the 5+1 model and it came with the pistol grip (which I'll never use anyways)
Of course SFRC was busy from the sale but I had the gun in 7 days. I called a few times because I obsessed about getting it and the girl on the phone was always nice. When I recieved the gun it was is perfect condition all still pristine factory wrapped and zero issues. So, on a side note A+ to SFRC. I highly reccomended buying from them!
Took the gun to the range yesterday and am totally in love!!! Cycles all ammo to perfection. I shot buckshot, slugs, and it ate up the manure universal shells my expensive guns don't like!
The action is smoothe and very strong feeling. It's accurate (as much as a shotgun should be) the fit is excellent for me. The overall weight is very nice. I really like the forearm fit in my hand. The pump feels very solid with no wobble or play like other pumps I have handled.
I also like the feed ramp, it seems very solid. I'm indifferent to the slide release location, as it works well for me. The plastic tang safety has been criticized, but I see no issue there as it is what it is.
I did pick up a HiViz clip on fibre optic sigh which is awesome.
The wooden dowel mag plug came out easily as it should. It's now in storage never to be seen again lol

I have to give this gun a 10/10.
For $350 it is the best gun I have ever bought.
It suits my needs perfectly and it functions flawless and I'm sure will prove reliable!
I prefer it to the sxp defender, the 870 with the same features, and it's much nicer than the similar grizzly.

Anyone thinking of one should do it and have some real fun!

We got this badass shot from the iPhone 6 slow-mo camera and freeze framing it. Then editing contrast and various other effects.

Looks like someone got a sweet deal on a sick rig, congrats!

The Mossberg 500 is one of the best shotguns you can get for that price bracket, and I own a couple because of it.

What kind of loads are you using on that target? If you're ever out doing some patterning with different types of buckshot and stuff, you should post the pics and distances. I love seeing that chit.

Mossberg 500 is a very good product for the money. There is a significant weight difference between the 590A1 vs the 500, but some feel that it's not a disadvantage.

I take it you didn't see the Mossberg 500 SPX for $375 at Arma Coat a little while back? That deal was excellent. Would have bought one if I didn't already have 3 Mossy's.

I had seen the 500 spx, but wasn't interested in paying over $100 more with tax and shipping simply because I didn't want the extra features and adjustable stock..

As for updates, yes I'll post some pics with different loads next time I'm shooting... Slugs at 20-40yds, buckshot patterns and I was shooting clays like a sniper with #4! Lol

Still, it was around $200 off a tactical, up-level 500 - making it an unbelievable deal. I liked my Persuader as well, Mossbergs are awesome.

Im glad you got a good one. My Mossberg Persuader turned me off of Mossberg for good. It jammed almost every time I racked it.

Great review for one of the best shotguns.
Thx.

Mossberg makes great SGs. I own a 18.5" 500A PGO(Raptor grip), 14"590A1, 18.5" 590A1, 20"590A1 and I enjoy them all equally. The two longer 590A1's have GRS but I'm a fan of plain brass bead sights with regular non-speed feed stocks.
Not everyone wants/needs a "tactical" overbuilt tank of a SG (590A1).... you found the right one for your needs. Enjoy safely.

Cabelas has a nice deal on two-barrel combos. $329 with free shipping.

Great gun, at a great price.
