Put up a post asking about core locks, and an earlier one asking about the mule deer rut.

My hunting buddy had seen some spike bucks but I wanted something in at least the 4x4 antler range.

I was walking around a bluff of trees when I heard something run through them. I saw it a few minutes later for a second. Then this guy decided to enter the trees and come towards me.

I knelt to one knee and got ready. he came out and I saw the right side antlers first. It looked better than any of the other ones we had seen so I had a few seconds to decide if i wanted it or not.

BANG, he ran a few yards then dropped and started thrashing around a lot. put another one into him and figured it would be over. he put his head back up and I shot it in the neck.

Hes not a monster, but he will make good jerky and pepperoni. He was very stinky

:):)

Those lever actions sure make nice pictures.

Specs on the rifle and load?

Forgot my handloads (its a long story..) so I had use my back ups. remington 7mm08 corelockts psp 140 grain. Never used them before on deer but they grouped nice. Probably would not have needed a 2nd shot if I had hit him properly the first time. Adrenaline.... not always good.

Will be using my hornady interlock recipe on my WT this year.

Its a browing lever action.
