Sounds like you'd be better off with a 12 ga. and #4 buck. Had more misses because they were so close. It depends on your terrain. now I'm wondering why I bought a .223 when maybe I should have spent the money on ammo for my 11-87. But everybody needs a coyote rifle and so do I. Not much you can't do with just a 12 ga. and appropriate ammo.

My point was that we tend to optimize for the longest possible shot when in fact IME the really close ones happen more often than the really long ones... but most, (70% ish) are between 100 and 200 yards... the shotgun wouldn't be of much use for those shots... but because zero to 200 yards accounts for 90%+ of our shooting here, the .223 is ideal over the /250 or Swift or BR...
But I do have a soft spot for the BR...

My choice for a decent glass for yotes nowadays (Cause of my eyes) would be a 4-12.
