My new .30/30 mould. (updated 14 - IV - 19)

Playing around with Mylabradar, I was measuring some .30/30 loads in three different rifles, with barrels of 20 inch, 24 inch and 34 inch.
The averages were 1985 f/s for the 20 inch, 2029 for the 24 inch and 2095 for the 34 inch. There was a fair amount of spread. These were mixed cases and the lengths may have some variation, so the crimps, and therefore pressure, may not have been consistent.
With today's effort, I raised the powder charge a bit and averaged 2262 f/s in the 34 inch barrel, and the group at fifty yards was just under 1 & 3/4 inch. I was using 748 powder and perhaps it was position sensitive. I'll try again with a bit of Pufflon as a filler.
If that doesn't improve things, I'll try some 5744 next..
BTW, the bore stayed bright and clean.

Today's update.
Adding Pufflon raised the m/v but the group opened up. The average m/v was 2406 f/s. I've never had much luck using Pufflon in the past. It hasn't lived up to its claims.

I then raised the charge to 34.0 grains of 748 and the m/v was 2424 f/s average. Eight of the ten shots went into 1 & 3/4 inch. This is at 50 yards and it was very overcast. It was raining steadily when I went to get my target. There is much potential in these powder coated bullets and they are sure changing the limitations of cast bullets.
