Some of you guys know the story behind this gun, but the short of it is that I was supposed to be buying a Marlin, but it turned out to be a Winchester 94AE XTR Big Bore 356win. I was not too happy at the time because of the "misunderstanding" and the fact that there were some spots of surface rust from the previous owner leaving it wet inside a saddle scabbard.:mad: It is a shame as it only had 9 rounds down the pipe. Luckily the bore was fine - looks new after a good cleaning.

Anyway, I cleaned it up a bit and installed a Leupold 2x7 as well as a hammer extension. I picked a few loads to try and headed to the range this past Easter Monday. After zeroing the scope on the paper at 100m, I tested a few of my reloads. I was actually pleasantly surprised by this rifle. It shot pretty good and will probably do better with further load development.

So, from a deal that started off sour, has turned out to be pretty sweet!

Here are a few pictures...

i have a win big bore in 307. i kinda like it too. i prefer marlins but i like the 307/356 rounds. one day i would like a 356 like yours to go with my 358.

I have the same rifle sanse scope. Have not been to the range with it yet but we were knocking down bowling pins at 75 yards with it on the weekend. I'm loading 220 grain speers over 42 grians of H322.

Funny how some things just work themselves out.

I have one with a williams foolproof rear sight. Shoots great I have some test loads to try soon. I shot a nice 8 point last fall with it at about 80 yards fell in its tracks. Enjoy your new toy.

my 336ER Target

The basic accuracy level of your WinBB is quite similar to my Marlin in 356. Here's target I shot a while ago. It's pretty typical and not a "bragging target" - just average of what I can do on any given day with a 2.5x scope. It's sighted high for some longer range shooting applications.

If I am not mistaken that is a relatively rare combo. A nice rifle that will handle most anything in Canada.
