Well, I finally had a chance to get out to the range yesterday and try out my new .358win Ruger M77 Hawkeye. It functioned flawlessly (other than not wanting to feed short 200gr round nose bullets) and it shot some very nice groups for the first time out.
The group on the left is the one I will likely use (until I find something better ) is 46.5gr of IMR4064 and a 200gr Hornady SP. I also shot a decent group with 250gr Hornady SP's over 46.0gr of BL(C)-2 (no photo).
All in all, it was a fun day and I am very impressed with my new toy. I hope to use the 358 this fall to connect with a deer or moose.
For 200gr bullets, I've always had pretty good luck with the bulk Rem SPs from WS and Russells. They've been quite accurate in several 35cal rifles I've used them in, but I've not shot any game with them. I use 250s.
One old geezer from the Yukon called the 200s "varmint bullets" prefering the Speer 250s for big game.
