So I bought a new to me VZ-58.. Rail System, Aimpoint, Vertical Grip, Folding Stock, Brake. I love the look of it.

I bought it from a User I will not say his name. But I recieve it, Fondle it. So I go to clean it, Run my finger around the inside, Its coming out PURE black.

Looked like it been though a war zone from the inside. So I grab the box of patches bottle of CLP and give it a good detail cleaning... I go through 50 patches and break open another pack... I spent a full day detail cleaning the carbon after I he stated that he cleaned it before he shipped it.

So I gave it a good oiling, Then put it in my safe to maby draw out more carbon and goto to clean it the next day. My muzzle brake is now Red...So I spent a few hours trying to scrub off the rust, The baffles on the brake is now red tinted.

So what does people use to get rid of the rust from corrosive ammo?

Windex, or hot hot hot soapy water. The same drill as for cosmoline, if you're uncertain how much ammo went through it.

Not everyone has the same idea of 'clean' - I found that out many many deals ago! :)

Clean to some is 'externally wiped down'. Clean to me is probably more like 'I can use the barrel as a drinking straw'.

Now I was just pissed because it was corrosive ammo shot, Now I'm cleaning rust off it...

So?? your pristene VZ will cease to function now ??? ;)
Big deal... just a surface thing ...it's designed for battle. You just came from Astan and suddenly you're fussy??? whats up with that Rob :p :D

Screw the windex man. It's for cleaning windows, and I'm willing to bet no window has ever seen the likes of the soot and crud that surplus ammo produces.

Get ammonia. The concentrated stuff. Just be sure to use it in a well ventilated area or it'll burn the hell out of your eyes and nose.

For the rust on the muzzle brake, maybe try a quick dip in can-tire variety rust remover. It should only attack the rust and leave the steel essentially untouched.

lol. My selling "clean" is running a bore snake through it twice :D.

I've never used brushes or patches. I've never cleaned anything other then the bore, except for my 10/22 one time when I filled her up with CLP and was shooting Thunderbolts. About 200 rounds of those and the receiver was full of black tar sticking to the CLP :(.

Only time I've ever "detail" cleaned a gun. If it shoots reliably, and a bore snake comes out without black crap in front of it, it's clean ;).

The only thing that removes the corrosive salts from corrosive ammo is WATER. Don't bother with windex, ammonia, etc; the first step in cleaning a gun that uses corrosive ammo is hot water.

yep. Run it through a hot shower and then clean as normal, not really a big PITA as everyone makes it out to be.:)
