hello all,

This is my latest AR build. Its going to be my DMR rifle.

A big thanks to the following CGN'ers:

Got all the parts off these guys who were all very excellent to deal with.

Parts list
- Upper: ATI COP, DPMS barrel, DPMS linear comp, DPMS BCG, Badger Ordinance charging handle with tactical latch, GG&G ranging rear sight, MWI front sight, NC Star scope rail.
- Lower: OMNI polymer lower, Ergo grip, M4 stock, Armalite 2 stage NM trigger

Its primary optic a Bushnell 5-15 x 40mm with mil-dot reticle and MOA turrents.










With an Eotech 512 I got from another CGN'er


With my Aimpoint H1 with 2MOA dot


feed ramps on both barrel extension and receiver (those are just brass and bullets, no primer or powder)


Ok so if you don't know about these lowers, they are a VERY TIGHT fit... as you can see there's practically no gap in between. now OMNI didn't exactly have the take down pins spec'd properly so some forcing is necessary.... I did have to use a plastic hammer lol but everything works top notch!


the excellent part about these ATI Uppers is the modularity they possess. the following 2 pics show how you change the rails at the 3,6,9 positions. the kit comes with 3 sets of each type of rail. A slick rail is currently installed on it.



there are 2 carriers that hold all the rails. the rails on the 3 and 9 positions have 4 torx screws that go in underneath which sandwich the carriers and the rails to the upper. The 6 position has 5 torx 2 on one side 3 on the other that secure the bottom of the rail. near the back of the rail on the bottom you'll see the bottom rail as a rounded extention, this is where the rail is screwed in to the receiver.

despiste the amount of screws this is a very solid system when you hold it. all rails, I mean ALL rails fit very snug and the fit and finish is top notch, very little to no over hang on the rails.

I'm really really wanting to get one of these guys but I'm reading mixed reviews about the Omni lowers cracking into 2 pieces around the rear body pin area.
 
Ok so I was able to get her out the range on sunday. Had 2 hiccups. I had one stove pipe and one FF. the stove pipe seemed to be caused a sticky extractor and claw. a quick relube and it never did it again, all parts were pretty much new so I think it was just the breaking in pains. the FF is another lube problem I think, after waiting 60 seconds, I tried pulling the trigger a few more times to make sure my 2 stage just didn't "bite the bullet" and break. wanted to make sure that when I took it apart, the hammer wasn't goin to fall and id catch a carrier to the chest. when I extracted the round it never got touched by the firing pin.
Now Im trying out this Hornady one shot dry lube. im thinking I didn't apply the correct amount when I first put it together. after a tear down and relube of all components this rifle didn't falter at the rest of the day.

I have a couple videos that show me giving it a small tourture test. this was to see how well it cycled, see how fast I could get that 2 stage trigger running and if that polymer lower was going to crack lol. I put about 150 rounds through it and did an accuracy test on the bench. im not used to these 2 stages and light triggers, so it was a learning experience to shoot it. I found out that it does like the heavy 68gr bullets, putting a few groups at just over 1.5 inchs. could probably be better if I had more trigger time.

These polymer lowers do have a few set backs.
1. The mag well is rather tight. in the one video you will see me stripping the mag by hand. the USGI mags I have, have a coating on them that isn't slick at all.
2. Pmags, my other guns love them... this one not so much. because of the rounded notch where your bolt catch would slide in, you cant use the paddle to release the bolt. I had to pull back on the charging handle and then hit the paddle... how ever with rounds in you still cant do it, when the mag is dry you can.
3. some areas on this lower are slightly out of spec, the rear take down pin is just ever so slightly out of alignment. needs some 'lovin' to get it in. but the fit to the upper is snug and no play at all.

over all id give this thing a 3 1/2 out of 5 stars because of the lower. its fun to shoot but I think the people at OMNI could have done alittle better making the lower to spec. the ATI upper is pure craftsmanship. the Armalite 2 stage NM trigger felt great. a DPMS BCG and Barrel were a prefect match confirmed with Foster headspace gages. I think the barrel needs some breaking in to help with accuracy. I never expexted sub MOA accuracy, i expected smaller than 2 inch's and it did that.

i think where they are getting cracking is where the upper sits just at the right spot where the BCG is striking the lower. that would be the problem IMO
