Well, it has taken alot of internet surfing, finally closed the deal on one! Now the long wait, but should be worthwhile. This is a 1941 or 1942, 20th series, as far as I can tell. MUM is fully intact, numbers matching, apparently a vet bringback, has a bayonet and scabbord, also comes with the original wood shipping box, with the original sender's address and receiver's address, which was someone in the 3rd Marine Division. Have a look,

Yes, it did come with the matching dust cover, unfortunately the monopod is missing. The stock/barrel band in which the monopod attaches is original and still there.
 
There has been some SERIOUSLY nice finds lately, every couple days something new and exciting is either found in the woodwork or imported from the U.S.

As an aside, if anyone is looking for a decent early mummed example, they might want to check out auction number 312401709 on a popular auction site. If I didn't already have a nice early Nagoya 99, I'd be tempted at the price range it's presently in.
 
I was just talking to the older fella that I bought this rifle off of. He said that he thinks he has the monpod for this gun, but isn't too sure, because he has "over 40 Type 99's and Arisaka stuff all over hell". Said he's been collecting them for 35+ years. Do the monopods vary in any way from year to year or manufacturer? How would I know if it is the right one?
 
If it's an original monopod, there are really only two types based on the shape of the loops, and either type would work for you. There is a third type for a 99 long rifle, but you would know if it was that one as it's too long for your rifle.

Is the guy in Canada? I find it hard to imagine 40 arisakas together here in Canada.

When they say no international shipments - does that include through an importer?
 
In my limited experience, it is tough to find an auction site that will allow international bidding. The site in which I found this Arasaka would not allow it either. I ended up sending the seller an e-mail through the site, explaining my situation, and he decided to work with me. After we haggled a bit on the phone and being it had a "buy it now" option, he sold me the rifle and ended the auction. I think that American seller's feel that there is alot of work involved and thus will not entertain the idea of international buyers. In reality it is no more work for them than if they sold it to a guy in the next state over. And as a bonus, I bought the rifle for three hundred dollars less than his "buy it now" price, which will pay for most of the importing!
 
That's all a bunch of malarky. I just act as though I'm a US buyer and have them ship it to Prophet River's FFL. As far as they are concerned, it's seamless.
 
I have an uncle in Florida who's father brought back a Type 38 carbine from the Pacific War. He tells me if I can find a way to get it to Canada (legally, of course), I can have it. In the shape that it is in, its probably worth $200-$250. What would it cost; paperwork and all to ship it into Canada?
